Homepage Update: Reflections on Koeman

That’s fair enough but there’s more to it than that. Koeman did far more irreparable long term damage than Allardyce, who was just a footnote.

again I agree, but I'm marely looking at it from a going the game point of view, and fat sams games was a lot more painful

He didn't really buy into us at all. Win, lose or draw he was still getting his wage and that's all that mattered to him.

First season went well though and was an upgrade on what Martinez was serving up. Although that was never going to be too hard.

The second season was obviously a mess and we signed the wrong players. Mainly Rooney which was probably the laziest transfer from a manager in years. If Koeman had bothered to watch any game of Rooney's over that last year he'd have seen the bloke was done.

The stats say Allardyce was much better.

However in years to come Koeman will be all but forgotten, where as the disgusting mess that is Allardyce, will always be remembered for being a disgusting mess and one of the biggest stains on the history of the club.

Koeman won’t be forgotten. As long as people remember the fact we once had to resort to Allardyce, they’ll remember the moon headed abomination of a human that put us in that position in the first place.

To be honest he is a average to good manager, which is why he was appointed in the first place. I think it is important to bear in mind that in his mind he is first team coach, rather than a British-style manager. Walsh was also in over his head as DOF, and is used to being a UK style chief scout. So basically they were working in a structure neither was suitable for, or at least there was a confusion that transferred over to the team.

He is a decent coach who will do alright at the top level without ever pulling up trees. His first season was pretty good, second season pretty bad, so he is somewhat on a par with Bobby M, though a notch below. We would never have got relegated with him in charge, and I think we just blew a fortune for next to no benefit, other than quelling the mob in the short term.

Clearly not arsed.

When you sell Stones and replace him with Williams it becomes obvious you don't care about more than the next 12 months.

When you spend £27m on Bolasie it becomes obvious you don't care about value and have watched Youtube highlights to judge a player.

When you spend £45m on Sigurdsson AND £24m on Klaassen and £10m on Vlasic AND £200k a week on Rooney and have no runners, ball carriers or passers around them then you have no idea about football and the qualities of the players you are signing.

In short, useless.

Last season Siggurdson was a worse transfer - huge wages and fee for not much return. Rooney was a free, so better value, and chipped in with many goals.
