Marco Silva Bemoans “Lack Of Focus”

Marco Silva has admitted Everton didn’t deserve anything more than a 3-1 defeat at Bournemouth, lamenting a lack of focus.

Marco Silva: “It’s a disappointing result, of course. We didn’t deserve more after the mistakes.

“We conceded the three goals so easy. I don’t want to take away the credit from Bournemouth but it was our fault. We had good offensive moments in the game but the way we conceded the goals made a big impact.

“We reacted well to their first goal. We started the second half doing what we planned, creating dangerous chances around their box but then they scored from one mistake from a set piece and were clinical.

“We have to become again that solid team that we were towards the end of last season and at the start of the season when we had 10 clean sheets in 13 games. We created chances and should have scored more but when you defend like that you are not going to win the game.

“It was a lack of focus. We addressed these type of moments last season. We were solid at the start of this season and we need to be more solid again. It’s something we must address as fast as we can. We’ve been a solid team before and I don’t see any reasons why we can’t be again.

“Last season we improved our away form from the season before but we want to do better than that. We created problems for them, created spaces but conceding goals like that makes you lose confidence.”

Hard too make a wrong step and make a bad touch when you’re literally just standing there in your own half knocking 2 yard balls sideways.

Delph did and didn’t pass it forward any more than Schneiderlin did relative to the touches he got. But he screamed and swore at his teammates, so it’s okay that he knocked the ball in his own net. I don’t like the guy either, but he was good and not the problem.

    [/QUOTE]

He’s not even close to reaching Martinez levels of delusion. Marco doesn’t tell lies in interviews or press conferences like Martinez did, but he doesn’t take personal responsibility for anything (which was a Fat Sam trait) which can be very annoying.

I would like him to listen to him explain why he starts Calvert-Lewin, why he seems to have excommunicated players like Tosun and even Davies, his thoughts on why total zonal marking is the superior defensive system for set-plays in his mind etc. – if he came out and explained himself then I might understand better or even agree with him.

Of course, a lot of this is also due to the appalling standards of journalism never asking any pertinent questions.

  15. It was individual errors that cost us yesterday, but that’s due to a lack of resilience. We’ve been losing nearly all of our away games for years, and we need a mentally strong character as coach to turn it around, not a whinger who stares at the floor feeling sorry for himself. I hate the gurning idiot over the park, but what do you think he would have done after that 2nd goal went in? He would have jumped on to the touchline and started yelling and gesticulating at the players to put a better shift in.

  16. He needs to focus on his team selection and taking the initiative not waiting or reacting to games.
