I remember when Everton meant solid at the back, rich history at this club of having quality defenders who excelled at defending, we’ve been a mesh since Moyes left really.

Oh it is, I’m sick to death of players ghosting into our box unmarked while blue shirts stand there watching because they’ve been told to mark fresh air.

Even crap defenders can man mark and come out on top more often than not.

As mentioned in another post, it very much is the problem, no other team conceded more from set plays last season than us- 16, a shambles, and we still go with it.

It was ace for about 4 or 5 months last season . Players are the problem not doing their job

The problem with zonal marking is that if the opposition know that is your tactic, then they attack the space that isn't being marked. Combine that with having only a couple of defenders who can win headers (sometimes) and a goalie who flaps at the ball and you have big problems.

We just got turned over by Sheffield Utd at goodison, but we don’t have an issue with our set play defending... yeah ok, get a grip.

It most definitely is a major symptom of how poorly things are going.
He employed it last season and it failed, he changed things and we improved.
He's gone back to it and it's a disaster.
