From what I’ve heard from my forest mate, dowell is the only attacking threat and is under a lot of pressure.

Excellent learning experience for him.

He’s not as good as people think, scoring a couple of worldies and launching some Hollywood passes does not make you a footballer.

He’s a proper lightweight who fails to make the most basic of passes

I don't want to be too critical because he has done well this year. But to me he looks another of the type of players we specialise. Those with enormous amounts of ability but no idea how to best use it.

It's almost like there might be a coaching issue at the club...

...he’s scored 9 goals from midfield which is some achievement at the half-way point in the season. Let’s not forget, this is his first taste of open age football having mainly played in his own age group. It’s a massive change.

He’s always lightweight at the U23, great left foot that’s not in question. But his overall ability, awareness and determination to win a tackle is not at a standard that’s required.

In all honesty it’s probably why he was sent out, to see if competitive game time can improve this.

He’d be more of a liability in our team at present

Like I said, cracking left foot. He’s still a massive lightweight and I can understand why he’s been sent out on loan. Nowhere near ready for PL football

Why are you looking for positives? You should be slating him. Achievements and skill mean nothing at this point in his career. If he's not already the finished article, he never will be. It's just common sense.

Both Eggs and nsno-chris are spot on!

I've seen him live 5 times this season (and a couple of times on TV) and while his natural talent is undoubted he needs to get stuck in and try and dominate/influence games a bit more. Hopefully he'll start to demand more of the ball and dictate play more as he gains in experience. His match awareness, defensive and pressing ability are all areas he needs to greatly improve though so all in all he's not PL standard yet. There's certainly something there though but he needs more time so I'd keep at Forest for whole of next season (providing they don't go down) and then we'll know if we have a proper player (or not)
