Yet another "Arteta to..." story (yawn)

I'm sure Arteta is happy as larry here but it wouldn't surprise me if his agent wasn't angling for higher wages. After all, he's been one of the best players in the Premiership this season and there's all that lovely tv money splashing about next season.

He has to be really frustrated not getting called up by Spain. Perhaps with exposure in the UEFA Cup that will change - I hope so, because that's the only reason I can see him leaving us for Spain any time soon.

Intresting that in Stubbs speaking about his contract situation on the O.S. today that he highlights the need to tie our more influential players like Arteta to longer more lucrative contracts, actually nameing arteta.

Also calls for decent investment in the team to progress.

To me this gives us a sniff of what the dressing room dynamics are, you can see Arteta sitting there thinking to himself

"well im a lynch pin of the team" "the playmaker" "scored some of the most pivotal goals of our season" "Hang on im picking up 25,000k a week"

Looks shadely acoross the dressing room and listens to ADM and Beattie

"Yeah James ill see you in the legion after training, if i could only find my house keys"

Beats replies

"Tell you what Andy you get the beers in ill order the pizzas just got my 1,000k appearence fee for the 10 mins i had against united. Sure whats that when your on 35k a week another ivory arse scratcher"?

Point?

Thee is obvious good will by Arteta and comittment toward staying at the club, but has to be and should be one of our best payed players as he is one of our performers. I think the only thing that will make arteta leave is a feeling that the club dont appreciate or value him to his through worth.

Good will on artetas part will only last untill/when a champions leauge club realises that he is one of the best players in the prem and unless we have him on a highly paid and long term contract hes out of here. Personally i got the jitters when Utd said they already had identified three targets for the summer.

The club need to make him one of the best players for the next five years and tie him to a similar contract.

i thought arteta renegotiated an extension with extra wages last summer, which if i am correct was when he said he would 'sit down with the club in the summer and discuss my (his) future'

wrights out free
pistone is out free
weir is gone

naysmith looks a gonner
beattie the same
vdm also on the way

they are 6 senior players, we dont have fernandes nailed down for next season yet, so those wages arent spoke for. Moyes has a balancing act to do, he cant say - '[Poor language removed] it, pay mikel 60k and lets try to keep this from johnson and lescott'

lescott has proven himself this season, and potentially deserves a long term good contract that will make him a millionaire, i suspect johnson already is one.

Arteta is the the first IMO. Repalceing him with a player of similiar quality would cost 40k and a hefty fee. Probably another foreigner who would take two years to settle and produce their best. He has proven he can be a play maker in a team that has qualified for europe and arguably the champions leauge albiet half a season, the team has and is growing together, which is the hall mark of consistency. And he will be become a greater player. Lescott and Johnson certaintly but Arteta first.

Looking at United this time last season the word was they were all [Poor language removed] and fergie was finshed, however he knew as Moyes does/should that growing and developing a team together can win you more games than signing the Micheal Carricks of this world!

Hey suits i wonder will we have enough after we sort out these contract for Gamest Pederson is he still top of your wish list?

Maybe we should throw are v bookie winnings into the pot!

MGP would be good, perhaps there is a brilliant left mid on the continent - hughes found mgp - mourinho got robben - wenger unearther ljungberg - henry was a winger on a bench in italy.

the talent is out there, i reckon we could get MGP because we could bully blackburn with better wages, better crowds, better football, and better prospects in the PL and europe.

good left footers are less easy to find, MGP has proved his mettle, michael ball was our left footed godsend.

Yeah i agree suits hes a goodin and we would certainly be an attacking strength from midfield with im in the side.

The one thing moyes will always do is pull in a mystery genious signing that nobody expected to be a gem a.l.a : Yobo, Cahill, Arteta. Lescott, lets hope there one is this years bunch as well.

yobo was sounded out by arsenal before we got our hooks into him, his commitment to nigeria and african cup of nations football put them off - they couldnt do without a first teamer (then) pissing off for a month in prime CL time.

ferrari was a loan i wanted to see more of.

lets give moyes his due, vic and vaughan have shown promise and have deserved their new deals.

Not so sure i agree with the arsenak thing think we got there before them and gazzumped them after the 2002 world cup they were definitely intrested in him after but remeber his first season with us was a loan so he was really anybodies after the first year. If i remeber at the same time arsenal had kanu lauran and toure all on there books so not so sure if your on the money there.

In Moyes we trust!

Told ya:

"Everton have confirmed they are in contract talks with Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a superb season, scoring nine goals and taking the Player of the Year award.

There has been regular speculation linking him with a move to Spain, but now negotiations have been opened on a new deal for the former Rangers man."
