WR Dean a century on (nearly)

He looked a monster of a man. God rest his soul.
He was Jimmy Tarbuck's Grandads best mate who was a bookmaker - he used to go to the horse racing with him on one occasion the bookmaker entered Dixie for a 100 yard race with out telling him & Dixie beat the odds on favorite in an athletic race just wearing his long Johns & pumps that Tarbuck deliberately took with him to the race course - Dixie came 1st beating a pro favourite by 2 yards -

Thanks Dixie he stated that's my house paid for now accept £25 .00 for goodwill - Dixie was not amused it was a big race held at the racecourse annually top runners were in it & he span Dixie a yarn - Tarbuck's Grandad cleaned up as chief bookmaker & all the bets went on the favourite he cleaned up on knowing how fit of an athlete Dixie was ....

I can understand the club should do something to commemorate him but not too bothered myself. Never watched or read about or paid much attention, way before my time so have no ties to him.
I feel more attached to players I’ve seen since the 80’s.

I genuinely do wonder if Everton had more success over the last 30 years, would fans care so much about a player who scored a lot of goals 100 years!! Ago

Of course. Dixie Dean is a legendary name in football not even just Evertons.
When i was a kid in the 80s and we were winning trophies galore Dixie Dean meant just as much to me.
It may be a personal thing. But through the years my work has taken me all around the country and football usually pops up in conversation. Everyone knows the name Dixie Dean.

Part of our great History.... a record no other club player has ever beaten ... when can you talk about that to other club supporters ?

A hattrick then was only classed as 3 consecutive goals .....

2027-2028 season will mark a century since the greatest goalscorer of all time set his unmatched record.

I'd hope our overlords will see fit to make an enormous global deal of this thing, for the promotion, benefit and visibility of the club. If not ... down to us somehow.

To put it into perspective - Newcastle last won the League 99yrs ago 1926-27

Well there were two parts to that. One Everton one non Everton.
I added in the non Everton coz i wasnt sure if you were talking just general football fan.
Non Everton under 25? No i doubt it. But a lot probably wouldnt know strikers from the 70s and 80s.
Im talking 20 odd years ago that non Everton fans knew about Dixie Dean and 60 goals. Thats quite a well known thing still.
But without sounding an old fart channels like sky changed all that. You'll see people who have only grew up knowing that subscription era football swear that lionel messi is the greatest player ever without knowing of Maradona. When i was younger i knew about players like puskas and stanley matthews even though it was way way before my time.

Some kids came up to me not that long ago at a park, cos I kicked their ball back, they asked who I support, so I asked them. They said they support Messi, Ronaldo and some man city player - can't remember which now. Basically, it seems a lot of younger fans support players
