Would you offer Phil Neville a one year contract in January?

He's good to have around the team and will help the younger players, need to stop being sentimental picking him for the starting 11. Should put Coleman RB far better going forward and linked up well with Naisy!

When Davie Weir's legs were finally going he went from team captain to club captain, at which point there was no longer any pressure to get him into the 11.

That should have happened to Neville for this season. If it had, we could have welcomed him as a reserve/trainee coach/mentor/good guy to have around, with open arms.

Messing up the Ofoe deal means we will be seeing him more than anyone really wanted.

I think there is more than a decent chance that Neville will be managing the club this time next year anyway.

Some people seem to have a lack of respect for Phil on here and I find that disgusting considering what hes done for us. I think he has been great to this club and a key factor in our rise from mid table mediocrity to regular European challengers.

He deserves a new contract but I feel considering what he has left to offer it should be one of two things. A significantly reduced wage one year contract which would consider him as a backup player to first team. Or a slightly reduced wage contract in a player/coach role. I think his effect in the dressing room shouldn't be underestimated, the guy is a winner and that rubs off well on the team.

Get a grip. He's not a charity worker -- he earns millions a year getting to do what we'd all love to.

Maybe the picture of him as a winner and a dressing room booster is a litle overstated. I am sure when we play top6 teams its great to have a guy who has been there and done that on oyur side, showing us that we are the same as them and that they are not invincible. BUT i dont think it brings anything to the table when its Stoke or Wigan away, and lets face it that has been our achilles heel since Phil Neville came here. It must be really tough for him to ge excited and share enthusuiasm for those games - uber-proffessional notwithstanding!
