Centre backs are pisspoor but there's goals in the attack, this could be a high scoring one

Trying to decide which forum has the more deludededly optimistic, or pant-wettingly pessimistic fans.
Shockingly, the truth probably lies nearer the middle.

I’m genuinely intrigued by some of the ‘they’re still a fizzy pop league team, let’s smash them’ comments.
We’re not Real Madrid no, but there’s never been a promoted team with as many champions and Europa league appearances in it as Wolves now, plus the manager.
(Look what Benitez has done at Newcastle, with a budget of buttons and pocket fluff).
I do get it though. I was there for that Saturday lunchtime game a few years ago where the rift in quality was obvious, and you’d tonked 3 past us in the first half.
That was a typical, newly promoted, backs against the wall home and away kind of team.
You’ll see plenty of that out of Cardiff all season.

There’s plenty in here terrified by your CB pairing and DM options, so I’m not sure how that tallies with ‘we’ll show them the difference in quality’.

For balance, I am a bit worried about our midfield.
Moutinho and Neves were positionally poor in the first half against Villarreal, letting far too many incisive balls through.
Coady also didn’t look anywhere near as switched on as through last season, which isn’t helpful for a sweeper.

Nuno stuck a rocket up arses at halftime though, and things improved considerably.

I think things may well go well for you boys later in the season.
Lot of great signings, a highly rated manager, if he can get it to stick I have no doubt you’ll finish above us in the league over the long haul.

However, for this game, you have a team still trying to learn the new system, with poor or ageing defenders not suited at all to the high line; playing against a settled team, in a settled system, full of youth, pace, and confidence.

I would be astounded if we walk away from Goodison with any points, when Silva has had plenty of time to make it happen.
Wolves win today however, is hard to look past.
Agree with the last 2 paragraphs I won't lie

We're the better team but these have got alllll the momentum coming into this one

Whatever the result today, lets get behind this famous old club.

We have had a good window, we have managed to strengthen the squad in positions we were desperate to do.

We have managed to ship out some players who we longer need/want around the squad.

We have a new manager.

We have new hope.

Lets forget about last season's debacle and give the team our full support.

COYB

1-1.

Im an oldarse mate, I remember The Wolves as a big club, still are imo. You had a great season and great transfer window, carry on with that momentum and you will win today. As you said, hopefully things will go well for us as the season progresses. Good luck for this season.

I am very very excited about the season ahead but I don’t see us winning today with those CBs. High scoring draw is the best I can see, lot of pressure on our front four to outscore their line up basically imo

I wish I shared the optimism but it’s too soon for us. They’ll score 3 or 4 today. We won’t handle atmosphere/pressure. Still a very mentally weak team with a lack of strong characters/leaders. Things will pick once new players settle in.

I’m not one sit on the fence, will just say it as I see. Today if we are on our game you will be given a football lesson ! If not on our game , you may scrape a draw ! No point beating round the bush . good luck for today and the rest of the season as I’m sure you will improve with the players and quality you have bought in . :)

I like Wolves, been hoping they would come back up the last few seasons. Think it will be a close game today. Can see a draw to be honest. You will have a good season though. Think you will be around mid table.
