Just watched some of the 'highlights ' again. Although not our worst player, Digne is decent. He's not wonderful going forward. Today, during the bit where pickford almost let one go through him, just watch what Digne does. He basically stops and allows their attacker to run unhindered towards goal. He just starts walking when the player beats him. It was criminal.

Considering how little the rest of the team does is creative output really is outstanding.

We can defend, it's just impossible for defenders to defend when the midfield are of the collective mindset "look the opposition have the ball let the defenders sort this out and when they do and clear it then we'll give it back to the opposition to have another go". Football is impossible with a midfield who aren't arsed and that's exactly what we have
A goalkeeper who is now making mistakes every game. Two ageing full backs. Two centre backs who turn slower that the QE2 used to. And they also play like strangers. A left back.who seems to have lost his mojo this season. A Frenchman (Sidibe) who doesn't know what position he plays........
And then Holgate. The only guy i'd keep. Build a defence around him. Maybe get JJ Kenny back. That's if he'd come back to this mess. And give young Braithewaite a go.
No......I don't think that we are great defensively.
Yes we can keep the odd clean sheet. Most teams manage that. Aston Villa did today.
We conceded 3 today.....Four a few months back. FIve before that.
And yes our midfield is awful. But our defence is not great either. IMO.....
A lot of work for Ancelotti to do........we are not a good team. Work to do all over the pitch.......

DCL’s problem is that his development should be as part of a bigger project. Right now he’s central to the success or failure of the side. He’s relied upon to deliver and he’s not there yet as an individual.
Yes that's why he needs support. If we had 3 strikers competing for 2 places it would be totally different. At the moment, Tosun, Niasse are competition for his place, and there is no chance Kean is competing for his place yet, for a reason which has been discussed elsewhere. Serious competition for places is required! Too many players know at the back of their mind they are in the team whatever happens.
Even Siggy knows he can get back in after a game or two out, same with Coleman, Digne and Bernard perhaps too. The issue is that we have to make our players have some tension about their place, and make a push to be even better, not just good enough to get picked. CA is supposed to have great man management skills, and this will be a big challenge -making those young players feel confident in their place to help them develop, but also players should have that edge that helps them to work hard to stay in .

Did you see that bit where we took a short goal kick and then we played it fluently through the midfield and worked a great chance?

No, because that would never happen, so why the hell do we try it?

Can there be a 'none' in the player of the match poll? I gave it Digne only because he was less turd than the rest.
