Winslow Hotel - RIP

I feel incredibly privileged that I was bestowed the opportunity to bask in the warmth provided by such a hallowed and beloved establishment. It will forever be etched of my experience at the Winslow on the last Derby at Goodison, truly memorable especially since an older blue made the thoughtful and insistent gesture of gifting me his prized Everton polo shirt off his back, which I will never forget.

Never been in the Winslow either. Just too busy to be anyway enjoyable to visit. But sad it's no more as it's another bit of history gone.

I can remember it kicking off in there after a derby loss in December 2005. All blues on blues. Bottles flying in the air, random people getting digged or given a beating. It was like a scene out of Bottom.

I briefly met and shook hands with Dave Hickson whilst standing outside the Winslow with a pint after our 3-0 derby win in September 2006. You could tell he fancied going in, but he thought better of it.

I think it's the pre-match routine that I miss the most, and equally would like to be replicated. I enjoy our pre-match drinks in town, yet it ain't the same.

Maybe it's merely sentiment though and not fulfilling that muscle memory, because I'd tread those same steps around Goodison for decades.

yeh tbf i wasnt missing goodison when i was getting absolutely belted in town and around the ground for the weekend games v brighton, villa, newcastle, palace, forest etc

the streak of night games recently with two more to come is ruining things
