First of all, apologies if this needs moving to world football.
Watching motd I can't help but agree with the comments made by zaha.
He goes on about constantly being targeted by aggressive and dangerous challenges in order to stop him, explaining that sometimes it causes him to lose his head and react.

This instantly brings to mind the richarlison sending off, a result in my opinion owing to the previous games referees allowing oppo players to kick lumps out of him without punishment.
I'm all for allowing physicality in football as long as it is fair and within the rules, however I do feel that talented players need more protection.
Skillful players shouldn't be allowed to be kicked out of the game.

opinions?

Whilst I agree, this can happen in all contract sports. Ride the fouls, they'll get a yellow at some point and the properly run at them knowing they can't Foul you. Then when you're winning take the Mickey out of them and watch them lose their rag and get sent off.

..he’s a big powerful man and he’s there to be fouled. It takes pressure off the team and gets them up the pitch. What is very wrong are any attempts to injure the lad and that’s where referee’s have to take effective action.

See I agree to a point. Drawing fouls ala pienaar is an art form. Being fouled is also part and parcel of being a skilful player.
I draw the line however at the old fashioned idea of, give him a kicking and let him know you're there style of play. When it gets to the point where these type of players are repeatedly targeted for overly physical, sometimes dangerous challenges the refs need to step in and take charge.

Defending at it's best is another art form, as shown by the legends like maldini etc, you don't have to hack people down constantly to be an effective defender. It'd be nice if this could be encouraged more, particularly in this country, as eventually it'd lead to national success and a higher level of football.

Which they have not been, nor is the FA bothered about fixing it either. Look at what happened to Capoue after his challenge on Zaha for instance, compared to what happened to Richarlison (or Rashford).

He’s right.

Every week or so there seems to be a tackle on him that is rather dangerous and could be punished. Yet it doesn’t.

If he played for a top side, he’d be protected but he doesn’t so he isn’t. It’s a bit of a joke really.

Capoue's tackle on Zaha a couple of weeks ago was a genuine attempt to end his season and i dont think he even got booked. You can go on about them getting booked eventually but its no good if youre on a stretcher.
