Designer bricks. For a raised plant bed. @Joey66

The above is 5 ordinary rectangular bricks stood on their side. Lash em together with zip ties, or a bit of mortar.

Why is it that it seems like I'm the one that's nuts here?

They're highly functional for the application is what they are, beauty in simplicity...you're going off-road for thinking "smarter not harder"

And I'll need to put a bottom on the build, no? It'll be great with a little gap underneath it so that the sub zero air gets through and dries it out quicker
of course you put a bottom on it, otherwise the beasties burrow up via through the earth at the edges. sub zero air kills beasties. you've lined it, but only in part? so there is no drying out.

did this design come to you in a dream or from one of the angels?

No, from common practice regarding this around my region and across Europe.

It's got a metal net underneath by the way, as I said in the original post
When it was upside down it was like this:

Then it's the liner, wood, etc.
We also have anti-mole/rodent ultrasound devices across that part of the yard.

Also consider the climate and how sub-0C temperatures affect raised beds; insulation is quite important when it drops down and I'll add a greenhouse/anti-frost layer on the top to combat that too when we plant stuff, but the climate here is much more aggressive compared to the milder UK.

Ferrets would love that space.
