Wildlife in your Garden

Not strictly wildlife related, but made the first/test run raised bed for the garden, really happy with how it turned out, will definitely do more. The only pic I have that I can share without doxing myself is this, and it's still crap because the yard is IN A STATE, but we're getting there, it's the next main thing to do in the next few months. Ignore the bricks, etc.

Looks tiny, but it's 1m x 2.5m, treated wood, each plank is 12.5cm tall so it's quite decent. Net for rodents and other bastards on the bottom and a mulching sheet. First layer is clear cardboard, then sticks/wood (got a wood crusher to make all the trimming/cuts around the yard into bits too), then dirt - we'll top it off with more soil and fertilizer in a week or two, as well as plant some stuff. I've got a way to add greenhouse rods (no idea what they're called in English and cba looking it up now, so hope it gets through, it's those plasticky rods you make into a half-hoop) to it for safety against frosting in the next month or two, or add shade cloth after; it's also wood so we can add whatever we want later!

It`s completely pointless putting nest boxes up for small birds anywhere in the UK where there are Grey Squirrels, without reinforcing them.

Sadly most people don`t know this and only find out the hard way.

If I could get away with it, I`d have my air gun in the woods and cull the tree rats.

Tree, pair of grey squirrels, air rifle with telescopic sight, job done……..

Have you not got a sprit level - you will still get nice vegetables though ;) use a good sprinkling of Bone meal in your mix before you plant ....

Hope your liner is only on the sides or at least perforated, don't want standing water accumulating on the bottom.

Forgive my being silly.
Would it be worth raising the beds on 3 or 4 of your spare bricks? The higher you lift the beds off the ground the more effort the beasties (slugs n snails) have to put in to climb up to your herbs n veg. The wooden sides when wet in rain wont provide much sanctuary.
Also, did you microwave the soil in the beds? to kill off any eggs n larvae?

WTF!
Is that even a thing?
There must be about half a ton of soil there
