The midfield was below par, Neville and Osman lost too many first and second balls and didn't offer enough in possession. Fellaini wasn't his best, I'm not against using him further forward but I think he can cruise through games from that position. He improved when he dropped deeper and I think he puts more into it when he plays there.

Luckily for us Pienaar and Baines where at there best and pretty much carried the rest of our midfield. It's just amazingly inventive really, they make up new moves every game, keep you guessing and I'm seeing things I haven't seen them do before. A joy to watch and It's good to see we are getting them a decent supporting cast. Mirallas disappeared for long periods but still has those quality glimpses in games, he's a player. It's the first time he's looked a little uncomfortable on the right but Wigan definitely bettered us in that area of the pitch. Jean Beausejour played in that space between Coleman and Mirallas and made it difficult for them to link up. Distin shored things up a bit, Wigan isolated Heitinga in the first half and one foot dealt with that threat. Johnny's started poorly and isn't winning his battles but he always tends to start slowly and work his way into the season.

I was expecting a 0-0 so I'm not to disappointed. These games are usually very tight and we struggle alot more than we did today. We played to a decent standard, showed we can create lots of chances and would have done enough to win on another day. I didn't even think Wigan where on top in the first half, they caused us problems, but we had good spells and where well in it. I'm pleased with what I'm seeing at the moment.

Good point that. And it underlines why a kneejerk reaction to their potential partnership on the right shouldn't be made on the basis of facing an atypical opposition formation.

These MOTD highlights are just showing me Neville being utterly gormless as everyone runs past him, or he's just marking space looking like a spanner.

Neville's been better the last couple of weeks, you have to give him credit for keeping going after the horror show that was the Newcastle game. It's not his fault he can't keep up with Arouna Koné.

Look at this lads.

well going on highlights neville was the 2nd worse player on the field after heitiga who was poor to say the least! miralless needs to polish up his finishing too!

Showing Neville's fantastic reading of the game and positional sense there.

Lol.

I think he won 1 challenge and forgot to close anyone down all game

A midfielder puts any challenge or closes the space on those 2 goals... They don't score imo and makes the defences job easier

Didn't see the game this morning as it was delayed coverage and replayed whilst I've been at work, how did we play? I heard the ref had a shocker, which doesn't help, but it must have been a fairly entertaining game?

well on the day makes him a better player than heitinga yet its nev thats the scapegoat on here

Sounds like there's a couple of scapegoats reading back to be honest, it's just noticeable that even if Neville scored a hattrick of own goals you would be able to defend him somehow.

He shouldve been stronger on the 2nd goal... But the supposed defensive midfielder in no way made any challenge or offered support to either goal apart from trot back and point somewhere when they scored.

Attacks just glide through him and Osman unchallenged. It's happened for weeks.

Their get out of jail is the fact that we're a massive attacking threat.
