I thought we were alright, Wigan played very well for a team relying on Shaun Maloney for creative inspiration. That said, there wasn't much quality in the final third from either side. Both their goals were really poor from a defensive point of view, one was offside, and ours were luck and a penalty. I'm still not particularly enjoying Marouane up front. As much as he causes problems with his physicality, he really gets frustrated with the lack of space in those forward areas and ends up doing some **** things because he's an idiot at times. I feel like if we had a proper number 10 we'd have had double the chances today.

I don't think we can argue too much with the result, lack of penetration from us and giving away two soft goals meant it was always going to be difficult to win the game.

I'm in love with you.

Couldn't agree more Brownz he's better defensive mid.

If Donovan comes in Mirallas could move centrally and Donovan out wide with Gibson and Fellaini in the middle. Picture that a moment and try not to fap.

I got no clue what is the problem but its not like us to be so good attacking and so bad defending. We did look a bit better when Distin came in at half time.

Really really hope Gibson is the answer to our problems.

The problem is, with so many players attacking, often 7 players, we are very vulnerable to counter-attacks. And with, not so fast, Jagielka and Heitinga a fast center forward, Kone, can get a good scoring opportunity. Looks better with Distin playing but we still need to choose between attacking alot or defending well. I prefer attacking, but maybe we sometimes need to learn when and how much is good for the balance.

He was. But I did see him make a tackle and then pass to an Everton player.

In the 2nd half I once saw Neville trying to pass the ball forward to Coleman but the ball felt it was impossible coming of Nevilles foot and changed direction in the air and went sideways and forced Coleman to back down and pick up the ball. True story.

The midfield was below par, Neville and Osman lost too many first and second balls and didn't offer enough in possession. Fellaini wasn't his best, I'm not against using him further forward but I think he can cruise through games from that position. He improved when he dropped deeper and I think he puts more into it when he plays there.

Luckily for us Pienaar and Baines where at there best and pretty much carried the rest of our midfield. It's just amazingly inventive really, they make up new moves every game, keep you guessing and I'm seeing things I haven't seen them do before. A joy to watch and It's good to see we are getting them a decent supporting cast. Mirallas disappeared for long periods but still has those quality glimpses in games, he's a player. It's the first time he's looked a little uncomfortable on the right but Wigan definitely bettered us in that area of the pitch. Jean Beausejour played in that space between Coleman and Mirallas and made it difficult for them to link up. Distin shored things up a bit, Wigan isolated Heitinga in the first half and one foot dealt with that threat. Johnny's started poorly and isn't winning his battles but he always tends to start slowly and work his way into the season.

I was expecting a 0-0 so I'm not to disappointed. These games are usually very tight and we struggle alot more than we did today. We played to a decent standard, showed we can create lots of chances and would have done enough to win on another day. I didn't even think Wigan where on top in the first half, they caused us problems, but we had good spells and where well in it. I'm pleased with what I'm seeing at the moment.

Neville's been better the last couple of weeks, you have to give him credit for keeping going after the horror show that was the Newcastle game. It's not his fault he can't keep up with Arouna Koné.

They played counter attack all game but were surprisingly good at it. Their passing was incisive and they didn't **** it when they got in good positions, exploiting our lack of pace in the middle by dragging the centre backs wide. Good tactics against us really.

In the first half yes, in the second they seemed to ping the ball directly into touch

This. When we have Coleman and Baines bombing on, we need a centre back to be able to go across and cover, who's quick. Especially considering that they were playing a front 3, one of which who is Kone who is rapid. This game pretty much highlighted for me why I don't like to see Heitinga/ Jags as a partnership. This is magnified when we have Osman and Neville in midfield, the latter who is meant to be protecting and covering for the back 4 but simply doesn't have the legs for it anymore.

Credit to Wigan, they played to their strengths, in the 1st half especially.
