IMO the main culprit for their first goal was Heitinga for his non-existent defending.

Here are my ratings based on the game:

HOWARD - 6.5 - Didn't have anything to do, couldn't really help either goal imo.

COLEMAN - 5.0 - Looks OK, but obviously needs to improve on his defending and needs helping out more by the player playing in front of him, i.e. Mirallas today.
JAGIELKA - 7.0 - Fantastic sliding tackle to save a certain goal, looks OK also aside from that.
HEITINGA - 4.0 - One of his worst days in a blue shirt, all over the place
(DISTIN) - 7.5 - Much better than Heitinga and Kone was anonymous once he came on, good sub by Moist.
BAINES - 9.5 - Excellent, great penalty under pressure and some fantastic clever runs all game. He must be knackered!

MIRALLAS - 6.0 - Looked OK, unlucky with a few shots. As mentioned needs to help the RB more but that will come.
NEVILLE - MINUS 100 - Horrible. Moyes wants questioning why he keeps selecting him when other men are available. Criminal.
OSMAN - 5.0 - Pretty rubbish for me aside from one or two nice moves.
FELLAINI - 6.0 - Rattled by an unfair yellow card, seemed to get to him a bit. Looked threatening though despite that.
PIENAAR - 7.5 - Good, great link up play as usual with Bainesy and the midfielders.

JELAVIC - 7.5 - Clever header for the goal, cheated out of a clear penalty. Good day at the office for him.

I said live, after the replay and after watching that.

That is a perfect example of how there is only 2 possible decisions. Corner or penalty, he either got the ball or got the foot. There is absolutely no other possibility so what does the ref give.

Me too but obviously he thought that there was no contact and Jelavic shanked it.

I agree with that and thought Mirallas was terrible in that respect in the first half. Ossie did much better in that respect in the second half. Nevertheless Coleman was dreadful.

Mirallas still offers that inventive spark, which is far more valuable to the team than Coleman's attacking threat so I would lose Coleman in favour of someone who is more defensively sound.

Those talking about developing youngsters should remember that Mirallas is 24 and inexperienced in this league - how many youngsters should we be giving a chance to at one time? Leeds is the perfect example of how this works out.

If Colemans performance was dreadfull -how to you rate your captains performance??????? he should have been subbed at half time along with JH Coleman did ok in the game I watched!

Makes no sense to me to advocate Mirallas keeps the shape of the team and then expect him to flourish with Neville or Hibbert behind him.

With a work in progress you have to stick with it and give it a bit of faith and some time to become consistent.

Again: we'll move forward with a balanced team that can provide a threat down both flanks and through the middle. I have no idea whether Coleman will be the RB to help give us that long term; I do know that it wont be either Hibbo or Neville who does.

It's no time for kneejerks.

I went for a lunchtime drink with my wife, her dad and my visiting mum at our local Wetherspoons, expecting to home before kick off. Instead, it went so well I got home around 4.50. The last thing I knew before leaving was that we were losing 2-1, so I was pleased to see the final result. I've read the thread but will wait until I've seen the game on Football First before making any other comments. Over and out.

????

With Neville or Hibbert behind him he can have the confidence to go forward (his main job ) but with Coleman he can't.

Let's face it Mirralllas is not Pienaar - he doesn't do the defensive work Pienaar does, The RHS is not going to become a mirror of the LHS

To get the threat down the RHS you crave there is more possibility of a Mirallas & Hibbert / Neville combo working than Mirallas & Coleman combo in my opinion.

*one of those games
*ref mistake in that Jelavic situation
*wigan should never be underestimated in their home turf
*we played some fine footy from time to time
*defence was shaky tonight, good save from jags in the end
*luckily we saved a point, thanks to Baines
*14 points, thats the fachht
*whats our fuc**** name
*COYB

Huh, something I didn't expect, Garth Crooks being nice about us:

Garth Crooks, BBC Final Score
"Mirallas was excellent again today for Everton. Jelavic was very good. Pienaar and Baines linked up brillaintly. They look worthy of finishing fourth or fifth this season."

Can't win every game and everything is not going to click week in week out.

We all know we have some problems that need attention. CM is a big problem especially away from home. Gibson will sure it up a bit.

Coleman and mirallas are work in progress they will both get better at there weak points. Ossie and Neville ain't good enough to be relied on week in week out.. But there having to play at the moment.

At least we rescued a point. Wigan are known for this type of thing against bigger teams!
