Why i think we will spend in Jan

Fellaini has ages on his contract, THIS Jan is not critical
For us to be a seller, willing or unwilling-ish there first has to be a buyer
What we need is
1) A bidding war
2) Even better, once the seasons cards have fallen where they will, an end of season bidding war.
3) what we also need to happen is that his Dad / Agent needs a reality check on just how good ( good but not super great )
his son is ( not going to happen, all he sees is ka-ching / pound signs )

I think the Chinese curse may you live in 'interesting ' times will be to the fore in the next 9mths

This!

Here is the thing with Fellaini, he is on a 5 year contract so we can ask what we want for him. The number going around is 30M. Thats all very nice but who is going to pay 30M for him? Hes a quality player of course but he isnt a player who can just slot into any teams system.

Some of our fans actively seem to be selling him already. I reckon he will be here for another few years myself.

We don't have the overdraft facility or the backers to allow us to do that - and, if we missed out on the CL, and nobody came in for Fellaini, we'd be liquidated.

We'll spend £1m net as a maximum in January.

Liquidated?

Even if the highly unlikely scenario you have posed was to come true, it would never result in liquidation. We have a plethora of saleable assets that would cover such over expenditure.

I think we all know the big fella will be off at the end of the season if we dont get top 4. So way i see it and hopefully Moyes sees it, Is go out spend some money have a real go at top 4. Then worse case scenario we miss out top 4 we have to sell Fellaini and we recoup any money spent in Jan.
I think Moyes will be pressuring the board to get their hands in there pockets and i also think thats why he has not signed new deal yet.

same scenario as 2005 when we got 4th place, the board didnt shell out money for top players then and I dont expect them to now, why would they its too risky. Moyes contract still not sorted, fellaini might leave, we might not even get 4th place, even if we did get 4th place we might lose the qualifiers and then the qualifiers for the europa league aswell and end up with nothing like in 2005. what hapens if spurs and arsenal also spend big and we end up in 6th having spent loads.

as I said way too risky

The difference this time, is that a whole load of bumper new revenue is on its way anyway (TV money). Every club will be spending more as a result of this, so why not spend it a bit earlier to try and achieve Champions League qualification? Which would also result in us receiving yet more revenue!

becuase we havent received it yet, thats the difference your talking about taking loans out and then paying them back with future money
thats what got us into the mess over the last decade. taking out stupid loans and paying over the odds to pay them back is the reason we have never had any decent money to spend.

What mess? All we have done is improve over the past decade.

None of what you say contradicts the fact that we could spend some money in January, and that it will be more than covered through either one of the new TV money or the sale of Fellaini.

You’re trying to make out that borrowing and spending in January represents a big risk, but it isn’t a big risk at all, it is a small risk that has a number of contingency plans that would see us fine if your OTT doomsday scenario actually came true.

And rack up debt to the point we had to sell our own training ground and a player to appease the banks and we still make a loss every year.

And where does this nightmare leave us? Oh yeah, it leaves us with the strongest team we have had in decades, and with a debt that is very small by premier league standards. There has been absolutely nothing to say we are still making a loss each year.

When you think about it, it isn’t much of a nightmare at all, is it really?

We are in our strongest position for decades.

We release yearly accounts mate, we make a loss every year and have 60 million worth of debt and don't even own our training ground. We're not particuarly unhealthy by Pl standars, I agree but we're not doing swimmingly either.

I hope we buy some white nets.

****ing hate the blue ones. Actually ruins the aesthetics of a goal going in. Same with the ****e and the red nets, and City and their black nets. The nets are too tight, and they also hardly look as if there's anything there. Probably makes it harder for the players as well as it's so much harder subconsciously to shoot in just the goal frame than it is to shoot in the frame with a massive white net on it. We've all played down the park, and then Sunday League. Big difference.

where contracted to have dark nights dues to sponsership + advertising. Isnt a case of having blue nets for fun. Same as at City

And the accounts that are due are going to give a historic account of our finances, it will give a picture of our finances before the sale of Arteta etc. So there is absolutely nothing that has come out stating that we still lose 5 million pound per year.

We are doing fine by premier league standards. Small debt, loads of expensive assets, a whole load of new revenue on its way. It would make sense to invest now but put precautions in place if things go wrong; and we can easily sell Fellaini in the summer or we can rely on the new revenue that will reach us eventually.

It would be completely different to the Leeds situation, who borrowed far too much money without an easy way of paying it back. We would have measures in place to pay the money back, so there wouldn’t be a problem.
