Why can't we win the league

I don't think it'd fair to say that we can't be in the top four though.
Since January, the form table says we are third behind City and United, we have a better team since then.
If we keep people fit (which I think overall we can, as our facilities are exceptional), then why not? Why can't we look at the stats and say that it's possible? Yes we do slip up at times, but look at United today or Arsenal. The top of the league has opened up this season and I don't see why we can't compete near there. 'We have no strength in depth.' That's sort of true but in the 2nd half of last season we kept nearly everyone fit. And what happened to our form and play? It made huge leaps and bounds. So keeping Jelavic, Baines, Pienaar and Fellaini is really important, if we do then we have the best chance since 2004-2005.

I'm very optimistic. I love this team. Unlike some, I'm enjoying the moment, and not waiting for the other shoe to drop. Our form since January has been amazing. That's not an abberation, it's a trend folks.

That's hardly fair.

We Evertonians always laugh at Liverpool supporters for talking about 'winning the league' when they hit a good run of form, just because you don't want fans of your club walking around making fools of themselves being delusional doesn't mean you're not enjoying the moment.

If anything enjoying the moment and talking about 'winning the league' are totally at odds with each other, it's the people who don't want to do that who are really living in the moment.

One word as to why we won't win the league.

Consistency.

Dunno, I feel like the seasons before our main problem has been the inability to finish off sides. That we can do this season with our new players. Most of our players have a goal or an assist in them and we can attack through the middle. Not saying we'll win it but I wouldn't be surprised if we'd be in the mix for the top spot at halfway through the season. We'll stumble a few times but so will every other side. For me the most important thing is that the footy is quite enjoyable.

Tables don't work on half a season.

No, but the major reason for the change of form is the new signings that which we have kept. But yeah form can drop, we do have quite a lot of creativity so it should balance the fluctuations a bit. Like Pienaar was quite bad for parts today but it wasn't a problem.

We are a couple of injuries and suspensions away from being a much weaker team, and that doesn't even take into account loss of form by key players.

Our squad is small and low on quality compared to the teams we are trying to displace.

To win the league with Neville and Osman at CM (or as regulars in any position in fact!) would be as notable as news that Martians have landed on Earth.

Fairy tales like this just don't happen unfortunately.

Yeah, we're beginning to sound like kopites Ffs.

Just simply pointing out we have every reason to feel good. So I do. There's a strong vein of pessimism that runs deep on our fanbase, and I'm not saying there isn't reason for that, but the past has no bearing on the present or the future. How many dismissed our start in '04 or Newcastle's start last year? None of knows if we have the staying power to stay near the top or not. Winning the league is incredibly hard. But why not? Why can't this year be different? If the players and coaches actually believe we can do it, then they'll play like it.

The table really never lies. We're boss right now. If we continue being boss, there aren't any teams in the league that will be happy to see our name pop up on the fixture list, I can tell you that.

Not many are saying we are going to walk the league, or it's ours--just that it is a possibility--and not having the taking-a -cheese-grater-to-a-gunfight line mate :)

Me coming on as a late sub to score the winner for us in the champions league final is a possibility mate, but I'm very aware it won't happen. I'd still say this is more probable than us winning the league. We haven't even played ten games yet, or any of the big hitters away from home.

It's time to wise up.

Post from May 2012:

So the poll winner is the guy who is Liverpool's new manager...

...what can it mean?

Whatever...let's support Moyesie...if he finally cracks us a good first half of the season then we're winning the league.

Let's hope there's cause to repeat this many times throughout the season

Have we got the fully decorated bus ready?
