This probably doesn't deserve such a considered response, but we are nowhere near league champions material.
Our 1st XI is good, although hardly quality everywhere (does anyone really think we have a quality right back on the books, for instance?)
Our "fringe" players hardly covered themselves in glory on Tuesday, so it doesn't enthuse me with confidence that if we lose the likes of Baines, Pienaar, Fellaini or Jelavic for any remotely significant period of time the wheels won't come off entirely.
Even allowing for that, the likes of United, City and Chelsea are miles better than us on paper and have much stronger squads.
Arsenal are also better and, if we're honest, that's probably what the top 4 will be by the end of the season.
Realistically we could finish anywhere between 5th and 8th depending on what happens with injuries on our side and how the likes of Spurs and Liverpool do.
Top 4 will only really be a possibility of any sort if one of the aforementioned presumed top 4 underachieve significantly, and even then only if Spurs (who are also stronger on paper) and Liverpool (who could go either way but do have quality in key areas) don't kick on. Even Newcastle could feasibly finish above us if things don't go our way.
I know we're 2nd as things stand, but to me even talk of the top 4 is a bit daft at this point.
