Honestly, I have no idea anymore. I am disillusioned by Everton and think every appointment now is fraught with risk. A tiny, stupid part of me thinks we may as well go all in on Rooney, if only for the drama factor and the box-office it is likely to be. But my better judgement says it will be a car crash. James Corbett's suggestion of Cahill as DoF, Rooney as Manager, and Carsley as coach is seductive. But it's more sentiment, isn't it? Are these people really the best people for these jobs? What a coincidence they all happen to be Evertonians...

I’m with you there.

I don’t understand how you can dismiss Lampard but suggest Rooney?

I'm not sure I understand it myself. I suppose I don't really rate either, but one has the "mythical" DNA that might ensure a feelgood factor and buy more time, because either of these guys will need time and support to make any fist of this.

As a generally clueless yet another internet biff after considering all the options available I’m leaning towards Lampard as next Everton manager. Ideally I’d like a DOF first and to approve their new manager but we need a manager quickly to sign a player or two before January’s out, and then arrest a slide that could see relegation coming soon.

Frankie Lamps blue and white army.

I agree with Keith / Clive / Chico

Think he will bring a decent coaching team with him too - seems an intelligent guy, got an aura players will respect…save us frank.

I was thinking along those lines as well. Rooney might generate a temporary emotional fire-charge and unite everybody, giving us the impetus to get some results.

Who knows, he could do better than that over a longer term but for the purposes of this argument, getting us over the line as far as relegation goes is the only show in town.

It would be an extraordinary ask of him though and a huge burden if we went down on his watch, although that would be massively unfair also.

If it came down to Rooney or Lampard, I'd prefer Rooney. People say sentiment should not play a part, and really it shouldn't, but at least with Rooney there would be that possibility of harnessing it positively over a specific period of time to achieve the necessary before it would inevitably run dry. Football is funny indeed. It might work.

We have to settle on a nickname for him first

Or Rooney could do an Alan Shearer as manager of newcastle.
