Where and when did it all start going awry for us?

It started decades ago, but it really hit home for me when Everton, a multi-million-pound organisation in one of the most high profile industries in the world, decided that this was the best way to represent the club:

The joy after the Wimbledon relegation game. That was the opportunity to take stock and take the warning and get serious instead of celebrating. Then nothing happened.

Peter Johnson, Moyes leaving, Martinez not sorting out the defence, appointing Koeman and Silva - the list is endless.

Still to this day believe if we had qualified for the Champions League under Moyes we would have gone on due the money involved at the time. We will never forgive that so called Ref.

The Lescott saga of a summer. We knew he wanted off but we hang on then had to reinvest with panic buys that didn’t cut it. We’d clawed our way back to pushing top 4 from being bottom half to then not really getting back to that position since (barring 2013 & 2014). We seem to massively blow any big fee we receive which sets us back a little bit

Some of the posts have already mentioned it but for me obviously the European ban had a effect on the whole club, manager left along with several players. After that, some pride restored in winning the fa cup and then finishing 5th, needed to back Royle then and I think we sold Kanchelskis, someone else mentioned Tor Andre Flo, another missed opportunity. More recently it went down hill when Moyes left, that followed with key players getting older or moving on, the likes of Cahill and so on. Since then we havnt had a bounce back despite all the investment. The club needs to recruit that way it did under Moyes, sign quality but hungry players who want to prove themselves.

Its Heysel. Its always Heysel. If we have European football in 85/86 Kendall keeps Gray. He steps in when Lineker has his wobbly spell at the end of the season and we stick it out in the league. 3 times league champions in the 80s is the basis for us to go on and dominate in the years to come

At our 80s peak, we needed to strengthen not weaken.
Kendall s signings of Pointon, Langley, Aspinaall, Adams, were poor.
Other teams were buying Gascoigne, Beardsley, Barnes and Waddle , yet Kendall brought dross

Pointon wasnt that bad.
Not a bad point though. Lineker and cottee were the only real times we pushed the boat out going big. Cottee was sought after at the time.
