Was very disappointed with the new Mars Volta when I heard it. Mainly because one of the songs they played live when I saw them back in August was completely stripped back, shortened, and void of melody or typical TMV musical-theatrics. However, I started digging the album on some future listens, especially the second track Aegis.

This album is gonna be thrashed over the next week or so.

Aegis stuck out to me too at first, I've still not given it enough of my time. The Whip Hand is probably my least favourite so far, although with TMV, that can easily change.
