What are you currently listening to?

100 broken windows by idlewild. Its time to get woken up by melodic punky intelli-art rock! See that? I made up a genre. NME would be proud

Absolute beast! Not many people like Idlewild, good to see one on GOT.

Also, I've been thinking of listening to Mastodon and Echo & The Bunnymen for some time, where should I start people?

P.s You lot all need Lastfm. Quality way to find out new bands.

I've only listened to this once or twice through but I've really enjoyed it so far.

One of my albums of the year, if only because I've not really heard anything else quite like it. It's bloody weird. Bubblegum electro goth is the best description I've thought of so far!

It took awhile for me to come around, but he's a self made musician, plugging away in his bedroom ala Liam Howlett, and his evolution to a more 'motown' sound is ace.

I remember you saying how you had a hard-on for bedroom musicians. He's a talented guy though and he's starting to get some serious exposure at the moment so good on him.

I weary of Radiohead's constant taking the piss....but I have to say I LOVE Kid A. There's something magical about this record for me. I didn't think I'd like it...but I did. Still blows my mind when I listen to it. Juxtaposed to OK Computer, it's jarring. Taken on it's own, it's genius.

It's interesting how a few people on here seem to hate it. I love Kid A but it's probably not even in my top 5 Radiohead albums, if that makes any sense.

I was talking to a friend a while ago though, about how Radiohead could release an album of fart noises and people would still rave over it. I suppose whether or not people did that with Kid A merits discussion, but I personally think it's fantastic. And that's my own opinion -- Hail to the Thief was my first Radiohead album and I got into them by myself, and listened to all their stuff by myself, without any kind of outside influence telling me what was good or what wasn't. And I came to my own conclusion that Kid A was a dense but rewarding album with a few glimmers of genius ("The National Anthem" has been my ringtone for about 4 years), and at the time it was a bold step for the band.

Yeah it is bloody weird. I've not really heard anything like it either, It's quite poppy but listening closely it's quite intricate and some of the vocal harmonies are fantastic. It's definitely got potential to be one of my albums of the year, so far at least.

Will do Bryz. At work atm but will check it out. I try to check out most of the stuff that's in here because I have to say I literally have never heard of most of it.

Thinking about starting an anti-emo-rock floppy hand album thread, ARE YOU IN?

Start with Crocodiles and Ocean Rain. Quite different to each other but equally great. If you like them, have a look at Porcupine and Heaven Up here.

What Are You Going to do With Your Life?
is a late-period gem.

I always think going in chronological order is a good way to go if you have the time and you really want to listen to older band like we that grew up with them did, and like you do with bands you get on right away.

Having said that my favorite Bunnymen is Ocean Rain. For me easily one of the ten best records released in the 80's. Superb. Crocodiles is really strong (different though as noted), as is the self-titled album with "Lips Like Sugar" on it (maybe their most "accessible" record). I quite like a lot of Heaven Up Here, but it's top heavy. The great songs are some of my faves, but not as strong all the way through as the others SG and I have mentioned.

Good lad, CCF. The Bunnymen are one of my prized possessions. 25-30 years on I'm still listening to them. I think that should tell you something about the quality of the material.
