This was the first and only record I ever bought by Helmet. Their studio recordings seemed so bloody tame by comparison:

Really? I think Strap It On and Meantime (despite it being on a major label) are pretty abrasive

I also think that Betty still has the best drum sound in rock - and it's 28 years old (and created by a Hip Hop producer)

One of the few albums that brings to mind that Helmet drum sound is Killjoy by Shihad

This song is a massively underrated gem

Saw Richard Barbieri perform this a few years back... I still think this, along with Laurie Anderson's O Superman, must rank as one of the least likely tracks to have made the top 5 on the singles chart. Shows how adventurous things were back then, when avant-garde stuff could find its way into the mainstream.
