What 80's Everton player would you put in current squad?

Nev was awesome but I think that the difference in quality of Stevens and any of our current right backs we have is far greater than the Southall-Howard one.

Peter Reid - midfield general, enforcer and a winner.

It's clear looking at that legendary side that our current team just don't have the same belief. Although I think our attitude is generally pretty good, the team plays hard for Moyes by and large, and we're a lot better against the strong sides than we used to be - our balls still shrink on occasion. We're still not in the same solar system as the 84 side in terms of I-don't-give-a-fk self belief.

That self-belief didn't happen overnight - it was a process of experimentation and steady improvement until they got so used to being unbeaten that they didn't expect to lose. It could happen with the current squad but we need someone like Reid or Bracewell who were always calm and collected on the ball, and could stand their corner in a scrap.

Trevor Steven - for the basic reason that we need his quality in the side more than say Sheeds (for Pienaar) or Big Nev (for Howard).

If you asked me who was the most indispensible member of the 1985 side then, marginally, it would be Big Nev but I think Tricky Trev would bring the most improvement to the side. Big Nev might bring more points. Tough question - as Stevens at right back - overlapping like Bainesy does on the other side would make us unplayable. Then again how about the 60s (and 1970) team.. wow!!
