Get a grip Tubey

Baines can't beat the first man because Martinez said corners are useless, He's a pro footballer ffs not a 12 year old kid

I've literally just said that it's nothing to do with training and pro footballers know how to attack and take a corner. In the very post you quoted.

But there's no denying that Martinez doesn't believe in them, so they take zero priority in the philosophy Martinez adopts for our style of play. Similarly, hoofball is something every player knows, but we don't do it well (or at all) because it's not in the philosophy.

We haven't been great since Hinchcliffe, but never this bad.

And it's for a very definite reason - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...everton-fc-analysis-corners-something-6720222

Thats Martinez's view which we're all aware of.

It doesn't explain why we were so crap at them under Moyes.

We've got very talented dead ball takers in the team, we get numerous corners a game and we put plenty of players in the box for them.

Yet we take a crap corner, most of the time failing to beat the first man whoever is taking it.

Why?

We weren't as crap under Moyes. Baines could take them well and Fellaini was always a threat.

Yes, it isn't so much the poor corners as the fact we carry little or no aerial threat these days.

It wouldn't matter if it was John Connolly, Dave Thomas or Andy Hinch himself swinging them in, we don't have anyone like Royle, Big Bob or Dunc to attack them.

It is one of the most depressing things about going the game these days....the way the crowd expect nowt when we win a corner.

This with cheese, beans, tuna and other crap on toast. If we were to judge Baines on corners alone he would have been put down like a homeless dog long ago. 17 months of dreadful corners!!

Remember the 1-1 draw with Norwich in Moyes's last season...when they equalised in the dying seconds?

Baines actually had two outswinging corners down the Park End blown up because they swung beyond the bye line before swinging back in to reach the goalmouth.

I don't think it's the aerial threat - it's pretty much pointless having Andy Carroll in the box if your corner taker can't lift the ball off the ground and beat the first man, which is Baines most of the time these days.

We looked instantly more threatening from corners when Garbutt took them.

I honestly think we have been crap for years ( since Hinchcliffe ) but it certainly doesn't help when our manager places absolutely zero importance in them and the players definitely haven't got the belief that we are going to create anything of any note. No specialist just giving up possession and for a manager who likes possession based football he really should be coming up with alternative way such as play it short and start from there.
