We all know he can do a job when he's required to do nothing but defend and we're getting 10 men behind the ball. Any other scenario and he is really poor. Up there with the worst in the league level of poor.
Not sure why he’s taken such great offence to me saying this.

It’s possible to differentiate wanting the lad to do well and admitting he’s crap.

Wish him all the best outside of footy, same as any player who wears the shirt (bar Maupay) but he’s not good enough.

Hes not Harry Potter tbf. You can't coach crossing to a fella who looks uncomfortable passing 5 yards with his "strong" foot
I think thats the point tho. He looks nervous to me, confidence shot, no impulsive play. I remember him scoring away to Leicester I think. He didn't even think about it, now it's like he's over thinking everything.
Hopefully Baines can work on him and Ndiaye so that they don't have to think about where the other is.
I don't think the defensive side of Mykos game is that far off, and I just hope the attacking bit can be coached.
he's been through a lot, just hope he makes it.

This season he's been pretty dire in all aspects including defending, bar perhaps 2-3 games.

Last season he was good defensively (and shut out some of the best wingers in the league) most weeks.

I think its revisionism for another poster to suggest otherwise and then act as if theyre misquoted and attempt to gaslight with certain names like "Maldini" dropped in.

No-one has said he's anything other than a defensive player. Personally i couldnt care less if he's any good going forward as long as hes sound defensively, but hes not been that this season.

Last season he had a run of games where he was decent but fans got carried away by giving him motm pretty sure he was given it in 4 out of 6 games something like that. He’s far from a good player or even a competent premier league LB he can defend in numbers and as someone mentioned when there isn’t much space in behind him. He’s part of a collective of poor players and part of the reason we have no balance on either side. Obviously we all have different opinions but for me he’s absolutely rubbish I want more than someone who can defend 1v1 as a LB the games moved on from where that would have been ok.

Tell me you don’t understand footy without telling me you don’t understand footy.

The Maldini reference is because he was the best defender of all time in terms of marking space and his positional awareness.

You’ve not misquoted me at all, you have though entirely misinterpreted what I’m saying as some kind of character attack or something more sinister. I’ll repeat again, I just don’t rate the lad whatsoever.

Mykolenko in comparison is the worst defender I’ve probably ever seen for Everton in terms of positional awareness on a football pitch. You might see that if you’d actually been to Goodison to watch a game.
You can’t appreciate just how clueless he is in that regard unless you watch him live every other week.

Once again, he’s fine defending deep with no space behind him and if his opposing winger likes to run with the ball. Any attacker who attacks space/any time we step out he looks terrible. That’s not isolated to this season, watch some of the goals we conceded last year.

Nobody is gaslighting anyone, you are though trying to imply I have a dislike for Myko which extends beyond football - I’d be pretty careful about stuff like that. Read my posts about him you’ll see I don’t dislike him as a person or not feel sympathy for his and his countries situation. Outside of that he’s just a crap left back though.

I was a regular match goer before I emigrated and it's one of the very few things I miss about the UK. However, you miss absolutely nothing except the atmosphere by watching on the TV instead of the stadium. There are replays from every angle, in real speed and slow motion. There are numerous different pundits, good and bad, giving views and opinions to listen to and disect. Every single game is available to watch in full in Asia. Oh, and there are no pillars obstructing the view...
You can make accurate calls from watching TV, but you definitely can get a new perspective from watching pitchside without a producer or comms.

I don’t think you get much of a picture at all off the ball from watching on TV. I’ve often thought someone was quiet whilst watching on TV and my mate who’s gone has said how well the played (and vice versa).

With Myko he’s a good one-one defender. Their winger has the ball/he’s receiving it or hes being ran at - pretty decent really. If their player is making a run inside/behind him he’s got no clue where he should be stood or where the danger is.

He’s making basic errors positionally that you can’t attribute down to the pace of the league anymore, he hasn’t learnt at all. He’s improved with his covering of the back post on crosses but he’s still a liability (see Bournemouth earlier this season).

Just need two new full backs.

It’s not just the alarming drop off in the standard of his defensive play and total lack of attacking output, it’s now the regular mistakes he’s making leading to huge chances/goals lately.

Had an absolute shocker against Fulham that they should have scored from. Have a goal away against Forest. Dodgy header to nobody against Peterborough and that’s just the last 3 home games off the top of my head.

Also gave away a pen against City away.

If you offer less than nothing going forward, you’ve got to be defensively sound. He’s far from it.
