My internet opinions guy guess is it’s because Frank has more decent, healthy footballers in defense than in midfield atm so he’s playing what he has.

If he had Gana Onana Iwobi plus a healthy Allan Doucoure and Davies as depth from day one we’d be seeing 433. He hasn’t so we haven’t.

Maybe the back 3/5 was the plan because Coady doesn’t make much sense otherwise, idk, but the above is my guess
 

He's really limited as a modern full back, if that's what he's supposed to be. He's an ok left back defensively, but you'd get what he offered defensively for about £5m from the Championship or across Europe. He's not a bad player, and given we're relegation fodder he's definitely about the level we're at.

Exactly. 30 years ago he might have been an acceptable option but as things stand he’s an anachronism in the modern game
 

Would be tempted to go for Vinagre in a back 5 atm.

Though if we ever return to a back 4 then stick him back in.
