Everton said to be keen on Groningen defender Virgil van Dijk
Groningen defender Virgil van Dijk claims Premier League outfit Everton have expressed an interest in acquiring his services.
The 21-year-old says a number of sides are closely monitoring his situation now that the winter transfer window has opened for business.
The chance to make a move to England could be put to Van Dijk, and he admits to being intrigued by the opportunity.
He is, however, taking nothing for granted and will remain focused on life at Groningen until he is informed that a switch elsewhere has been sanctioned.
"I know certain clubs are following me and that Everton are one of them," Van Dijk told Voetbal International.
"I have heard and read a lot about it and after the winter training camp I will sit down with my agent Henk-Maarten Chin and catch up with where we stand.
"Of course I am flattered by the interest, but I have to make sure I make the best choice for my future career."
Groningen, meanwhile, claim they have no intention of selling during the January window.
General director Hans Nijland said: "I don't expect Virgil to leave. No clubs have made official contact with us regarding a possible deal and therefore we don't need to talk about it."
