Victor Anichebe - what can we expect?

He'll pound the turf and snarl at the ref when he falls over by an opposition player. After thirty minutes he'll be gulping air like a fish plucked out of the sea trying to survive.

On the plus points when he's on his game he's a [Poor language removed] to deal with. Massive back, rolls defenders like they're not there and can shoot. Seen green shoots of what he could be last season and he was better than Jelavic for most of it so it could go either way. Could revert to type or benefit from the change and if he does then you'll have a very decent striker.

I think he'll do alright. Played well last season when given the chance. In the latter stages of last year he seemed to have really developed his knack of holding off defenders with his back to goal then turning and getting a shot away. If he gets a good run of games going and doesn't display any of his old attitude problems I'm sure he can get into double figures.

He's also injury-prone though

Right I'm going to say what others will not, and expect some abuse towards me for saying it, but it's my opinion and reflects what I've sen of Vic, and in particular our fans behaviour towards him.

Vic is one of ours, i.e. he comes from Liverpool, and for this reason we have perhaps judged him more harshly than he has deserved. Certainly while other strikers have been pushed aside (Vaughan, McAleny, Yakubu, AJ) his raw physical skills have kept him at the club and indeed he signed a new contract in the not so dim and distant past.

Last year at the club was his best and he was probably our best forward (not saying much). However, he is still better than both Kone and Jelavic, without a doubt.

Now our fans relationship with him. I do think the fans reaction towards him at times was unacceptable, most notably on his return from injury at West Ham last season where he took some frightful abuse from our fans (I was sitting among them), and it was only when he scored in the second half that they shut up. Now I dont like to throw the word racist around lightly, but a lot of the times I have sat with fans both home and away, and if he heard the kind of abuse that was being thrown at him, I'm not surprised he was affected, and yes I would say it verged on racial abuse.

He will get more support at West Brom, undoubtedly and his raw physical talent alone will be enough, if he starts regularly, to score 10-15 a season IMO.

Verged on racial abuse? It either was or it wasn't. Can you give us an example of what was said?

Oh and I was there. He got ****ged off, yeah, because he was playing like a donkey and couldn't even be arsed to jump for any headers. Any player would have got a similar reaction.

To make the perfect Victor Anichebe you will need the following:

Take one Emile Heskey and dampen it so it has a worse scoring and injury record.
Add Nicolas Anelka but before doing so remove any resemblance of footballing talent so you are just left with the sulking.
mix it into a solid dough and form it into the shape of heavy weight boxer.
Lastly to finish, season it with the courage of the lion from the wizard of oz ( prior to meeting the wizard)

Apart from his name being spelt incorrectly, what can we expect from him?

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

Quite looking forward to seeing him in action, although I feel quite deflated the fact we lost someone else but I also believe we've paid over the odds for him. Hopefully, in the long run, it might prove to be some good business.

You can expect Barry Horne to call him "Anchovy" when you play against us and Victor is in the starting XI.

Overall I feel his main strength is... his strength. He is massive, and there isn't an ounce of fat on him. His most dangerous position is coming off the bench and going up top against tired defenders. I think he'd have worked well with Shane Long so I am at a bit of a loss there. I really rate Long, Hull have got a good striker there.

His weaknesses... his finishing is poor, he strops around the pitch if things aren't going his way, he is sliow, doesn't really track back when he should. Perhaps he'll strike up quite the partnership with that div Odimwingie... we'll see.

We have no bad feelings towards Victor; to be honest I never thought I'd see the day we got a transfer fee for him, so thanks for that. He'll always get a warm reception back at Goodison, but really I think he'll largely be on the bench for you lot.

Not saying anyone attacked him for being black directly, but a lot of stereotypes, that some associate with black people, were being bandied about. Lazy, carthorse etc. which, considering it was the poor blokes first game back from a long injury, crossed the line in my book.

Look at the support Jelavic gets when he is far less committed and a complete fraud IMO.

Would happily swop Anichebe for either Jela or Kone.

His first touch is best likened to the effect of throwing a tennis ball against a pebble-dashed wall.

This is quite superb. Wish I could rep for you for but some carts tried to ruin my fabulous reputation. Well in mate, deffo stealing that in the future.

So not racist abuse then?

Thanks for clearing that up.

It's not racist to call someone lazy if he happens to be black, just like it's not racist to call out a bad driver who happens to be Asian. Or a paedophile who "happens" to be Scottish.

Hahahaha

I think he'll be good for you. The stroppiness he has a rep for has decreased a lot in the last year to the point where I don't think it'll be much of a problem. He's a very decent player off the bench and his strength will be an asset. More talented than he gets credit for too, in my opinion.

You are the one being racist by saying that "Lazy, carthorse etc." in some way relates to a black person.
