An extended hello to all the American based GOT members.

Just wanted to ask you people a little question.

I'm coaching kids football during the summer in America and i've been assigned to the Kansas City area and the surrounding areas in that part of the country.

Just wanna know what it is like around there, is it a nice place? I'm really looking forward to it, i can't wait to get out there and just wondering if you knew any more about the place really?

Thanks (y)

Sounds fantastic mate, what an opportunity. How did that come about?

How long are you going for?

Doing it through a company called Challenger Sports. Went to a recruitment day and took a coaching session and they deemed me good enough to coach the kids stateside. Going from 1st week in June till beginning of August - back just in time for the start of the season (y)

I can't tell you much about KC - never been there for any period of time. A steak and potatoes kind of town. Like most bigger US cities, there's lots of sprawl and strip malls. I'd think you'll want to travel a bit while you're here - easy to get around for the Midwest - you're pretty much going to be in middle of the US so flights to both coasts will be probably 3-4 hours. It will be hot during the summer - usually more than 90 degrees F. Have a good trip.

Travelled through KC and I'll agree with ChicagoToffee - it was hot and flat and a long way from anywhere. Since I was in Colorado for a while and picked up the local rivalry between Denver and KC, I can tell you that the inhabitants are all mullet-wearing drag-racing barbecuing knuckle-dragging rednecks. Allegedly.

I live in Lexington, Kentucky which is about the same latitude but about 6 1/2 hour drive away. Never been there but I have been close. I think it's a pretty good place to live and will surely have a lot of stuff to do when your not doing football. It's great weather especially in the spring and fall. Good luck!

KC Update

I've been through KC a few times and would agree with the guys above. You'll definitely want to plan some trips as KC always struck me as a sprawling series of suburbs.

Head for Chicago (my home town now), a short hop on a plane for a real big city feel!

Kansas City Wizards are a pretty decent club, albeit in the MLS (football in slow motion). Take the kids out to watch a match.

I heard they get bad tornadoes in that area, likely to end up unconcious and dreaming of wizards, I wouldn't recommend it.

Well, KC has good barbique so I hope you like ribs but other than that I don't know too much about the town other than its flat and you might get to see your 1st tornado.

The KC wizards usually have a decent team but play in a 75K seat stadium and only about 6K to a match so it looks pretty depressing.

Maybe Everton will play there in the preseason.

I'd rather Everton come back to Houston. :D

Everton in Columbus was a nice event. Sad fact is it looked like the boys were in slow motion. The kids loved it though so thats what I was mainly there to coddle them a bit.

Good thing about the stadium there it was at least over half full. Not to bad at all. Met a lot of merseyside lads too a homecoming of sorts.
