I have read most of the pages in this thread since the start of the game and the feeling universally seems to be that McCarthy is playing as a defensive midfielder and is rubbish.
We have not conceded in the first half...I am a little confused.
Are we incredibly lucky or what other reasons have we not conceded if we are so poor?

We have defended well when it gets near our box. We are gifting them chances and have no might in the midfield.

It's a revelation to see two strikers. When was the last time we had two up front?
Some observation from first half :
With 7 defensive players we are strong defending, but struggel to create chances.
It's frustrating to watch McCarthy, always passes sideways or to the back.
Coleman seems to get back to 2013/14 form
Baines isn't that hungry to get forward as he used to be
Barry started where he left from may season.
3-5-2 can work, like the way Holgate has equipped himself.

We're effectively playing with 7 at the back almost which limits the attacking options.

That was the continuous problem that we had at home under Martinez for the last eighteen months of his tenure.
