Underwhelming Everton players you loved #1: Diniyar Bilyaletdinov

He wasn't the 1st Russian player not to fit into English footy & he probably won't be the last. Outside of Kanchelskis, have any of them made it? The likes of Shevchenko, Rebrov, Pavyluchenko & (to an extent) Pogrebnyak have tried & generally failed. There may well have been others that I've forgotten.

It could have been a language thing as Bily tended to be on a different wavelength to the rest of the team. That could be why his best goals were solo efforts rather than team goals.

Just don't get why anybody still thinks the kid could do it elsewhere.

He was knackered after 20 mins, hid behind his marker so he didn't have to take the ball, wasted 3x as many chances as he slotted and was one of the most disinterested players I've ever seen on a football pitch.

Seemed a nice lad and said some nice things when he left, as well as keeping his head down when he left, for that reason he's earned my respect but he was awful.

Watch Cahill push Bily away when we celebrate. Poor Bily.

Great post, except for the fact that neither Sheva nor Rebrov are Russian.
