Unai Emery

Posted in another thread, but interesting little coincidence, both Emery and Arteta share the same agent, small client list as well, both Basque, both started at Sociedad, and Arteat wanting to get into coaching/managerial side of thigns, wouldn't be the worst scenario i can imagine him joining Emery as an assistant

It's been slightly controversial but I would love Arteta back here. It's clear he loves the club and said he'll always be an Evertonian. We should try and get as many of our big name players back involved with the club in whatever capacity we can. Involved in the first team squad would be brilliant for me, maybe not Assistant though.

You'd hope some of the players could reflect on Martinez and maybe think "you know what, maybe him not being tougher on us has not been for the best in the long run".

I think Emery is a big of a cross between (a young) Benitez & Pochetino. I think he has the pragmatism and big game abilities of Benitez but also the discipline and similar style to Pochetino. I think like "Poch" had at Spurs he will fall out with players if he comes in. Spurs have lost players, some of them good players who performed well for them. However he made it clear what he wanted in style and also in delivery of results and if you weren't on board with it you got moved on. Lennon, Capoue, Townsend, Sandro (who I always thought was a beast) are all players who have done pretty well at new clubs and done a good job for Spurs but they just didn't fit where he wanted to go.

The same will be true for us. Most knowledgeable fans look at our squad and can't believe where we are. But sooner or later potential has to start turning into performances. If they can't deliver get someone in who can. And in all likelihood if a player doesn't like the increased workrate routine of an Emery then they are not the right characters to have in your dressing room, so bets to move them on.

From memory spurs had a dressing room bust up relatively early on with Pocchetino which caused a split between some longer term/older players and the rest - think it was Adebayor who the bust up was with possibly over him playing Kane ahead of him or something - and those that sided with him all got shipped off, certain ruthlesness works and cuts out any lingering problems

@Yid4life almost certainly can shed more light on that and probably correct my innacuracies

Been a bit of a [Poor language removed] in a few games with Arsenal against us, but overall wa sone of a small number of really talented lads we have had here in the last 15 years or more - and i personally don't blame him at all for moving to Arsenal at the gae he did - was his last chance at winning anything after giving his peak years to us

Would love him back at the club

I think that was spot on really. Either which way there will be some who don't like the new regime. All of the players have let us down this season and in honesty I wouldn't be too worried if any of them get moved on.

We will find out what a lot of them are made of next season. A new manager will demand more of them. Those who want to commit to it will stay those who don't can go elsewhere.

A BIG advantage we do have with any incomign manager is by luck a lot of the old guard at the club are basically leaving this summer, gives a new manager a lot of room to be able to bring in a lot of new faces without the usual havoc that can create from players having to be moved on

We remove the ones coming out of contract, the utter dead weight who i honestly cant seeing having any dresisng room influence like mcgeady, kone, naisse and we have a VERY small squad that the manger can add to and mould to the way he wants, adding 4-5 players who buy instantly into the way the manger works will nhave a huge knock on effect throughout the squad

Especially as it looks like Unsworth has those young lads willing to run through walls already

Agree and we've got more than a few hungry young players in the U21 who would snap your hand off to be involved more.

Just been doing a bit of reading up mate, Banega - initially first season under Emery was loaned out, second season he was in and out the side and couldnt break into the team - and was nearly sold to us the following summer if ya remember the saga, but kind of turned it all around, eventually cemented himself int he team and even followed the manger to Sevilla after - and cited the manger as the reason he joined them, so Emery - tough love that he seems to use, can't know the fact that it has workd a wonder with that particular player, similar to Deulofeu Banega was the super hyped up youngster who by 22 was getting written off as a player who wouldn't ever fulfill that promise
Banega was going completely off the rails when Emery first took over, staying out drinking, missing training. He helped him turn round his life and his career.

Great vcredit to Unworth for not letting the mailaise of the first team spread to the Under 21's tbh, has them the polar oppostie of the first team in terms of desire and fitness
Yes unlike Martinez I think he was quite tough on them, always pushing them. Seems to have worked brilliantly, he's done a top job with them.

And no one is bigger than the club.

so this is you?
