Godless on Netflix has been mentioned before and having just finished it, I don’t think it’s had the praise it deserves.

It’s a masterpiece, there’s no other way to describe it.

The closest thing I’ve ever seen to a Cormac McCarthy novel being brought to life, even though it’s not based on one.

Atmospheric, achingly slow at times, yet incredibly brutal, incredibly well acted, beautifully filmed and cracking soundtrack.

It won’t be for everyone, with seven episodes and each episode is 1hr 10 mins long, but the last episode is stunning.

The young British actor, Jack O’Connel, who is one of the leads, is a star of the future.

If you like Westerns, they don’t come better than this.

Another big up for Godless - then watched Damnation on the back of this and really enjoyed that as well.

I`m not ashamed to say that I shed a tear several times during the last episode Neil.

It`s deffo up there with the all time great Cowboy series / films.
I grew up on old westerns because of my dad, watching the ones that were possibly the most common film made at the time, I enjoy that the western format has become a place for independent film makers, and people with a genuine love of the genre

Yeah, it`s strange how Westerns / Western themed stuff has become " Indie " and the result is that we`re now seeing much better made "real life " in the West stuff, with all it`s depravity / brutality, rather than the comic book stereotype of the romantic cowboy.

I agree, with some of the best landscape work you will see, brad pitts jesse james effort was beautifully shot, as was appoloosa, and you can tell they were both works of affection by the makers

I`m just hoping that as Westerns are now being made by people that are serious about them, that someone will finally find a way to make Cormac Mc Carthy`s - Blood Meridian !.

Apparently it`s been deemed impossible to make and keep it true to the book, due to it`s content.

Anyone watch Designated Surivor? Watched 11 episodes of the first season and I am enjoying it. Heard people have lost interest in it though later on but we will see.
Watched it all until the break but haven’t bothered going back to it since they’ve put up new episodes. I hear it’s been cancelled now as well, so may go back to it to finish it. Quite entertaining in those early episodes, but it got very silly as it hit season two.

I read it about a year ago, even narrative wise it would be really tough to translate into screen, it's almost a bit William burrows like in how it reads, would need to be a director who really gets it as well

It probably wouldn`t make a lot of money back either, due to it mainly appealing to fans McCarthy and not the general public.

I’ll have to watch this Godless series then as I love westerns.
Don’t watch many series these days...still watch ncis though it’s run its course now I think.
Recently re-watched the BBC series River with Stellan Skaarsgard. What an actor that guy is.

You`ll love Godless.

Each episode (7) is an 1hr 10 mins long, the last episode possibly a bit longer.

It`s a true standout in every sense.
