the rampant rewatch of BSG continues, we've managed to plough through the entire season 2 in just a few nights of watching.
Brilliant first half, really epic epic stuff...then out of nowhere three genuinely crap episodes in a row (Black Market, Scar and the hostage one). Felt out of place. But picked up again after that. 3 things that I'm not sure about, i guess
spoilers for those who want to watch this:
- isn't it extremely out-of-character for Adama to just accept Baltar won the vote? Especially after Roslin said she suspects him as working with the Cylons, Seeing how cautious Adama is with Sharon it's a weird call to make. My best guess is that firstly he fears the crooked vote in favour of Roslin was too obvious and might cause loads of unrest, and secondly he's just knackered and needs a break from running away. I don't buy his principled reasoning that allowing the crooked vote would go against democratic values, but that may have been the intention.
- why did Baltar give the Six on Cloud 9 the nuclear bomb knowing she'd probably use it to kill thousands? He's supposed to be wracked with guilt. And saying that surely the military intelligence would've realised it would emit a nuclear signal transmission making them easier to detect from the Cylons.
- and going all the way back to the Pilot, how in all the gods' name did Baltar survive the blast which destroyed Caprica Six's body and all the buildings around it?
First-time watching i think i just went with the flow, but on rewatch these things stick out as sloppy writing, unless i've missed some internal logic.
Still excellent viewing, of course. My favourite season (3) is upon us now, from memory i think it's quality has a similar structure to S2, in that the first third and last third are amazing but there's some average eps in the middle. Might be a couple of weeks before we get round to it...good to take a little break after marathoning 33 eps in 10 days.
