I haven`t read the book, so can only go by what I watched with the TV series.
A very worthy attempt at shining a little light and joy, onto one of the most horrendous things to have ever happened in living memory.
Sadly, it felt flat and the fact that there`s so many different actors, with different accents, all speaking English made it feel disjointed.
They`d have been better off letting the German speakers, speak German and use subtitles ( imo )
It looked way, way too polished. When a Zone of Interest came out, there was a lot of talk about all Hollywood films about the holocaust (Inc Schindler's list), and a lot agreed that the best way to show it, is by not showing it. Even Spielberg agreed that he shouldn't have built suspense in the shower scene
A lot of European films get it right, and it's much more harrowing

And the gravitas and persona of Olivier's delivery is a true match for a series brilliantly put together about such a bad and sad period of history that is only now fading from living memory.Watching the World At War narrated by Laurence Olivier at the moment, had heard about it and been meaning to see for myself.
