I've been lurking here too long, like many others I guess, but it's finally time to come out of the closet.

I've been in NZ for 11 years and 2 days now but have always been a blue, cos I was born that way. My first games are the blur you get as a 5/6 year old going to Goodison but I remember Gordon West was in goal. Another early game, cant remember the year but I sat with my grandad watching a 4-4 draw against the barcodes with 2 goals disallowed; great for a kid watching the ball hit the back of the net 10 times.

Been to many games since, probably averaged 3 a season. Managed to watch most games in the 1989 FA Cup run cos I was a student at uni and had too much spare time. Watched Plymouth at home and totally stuffed up travel back to York, ended up kipping at Lime Street til I could get early morning train back. Barnsley away that year, the semi at Villa Park and my only ever final. Was lucky enough to score a ticket with an Arsenal fan for the last game of that season at the pit, when the RS went down 2-0. Deep joy. Was also at that Wimbledon game. As excited as I was to get the win, I can vividly remember walking home thinking that something happened that wasn't quite right.

Only managed one trip back to the old lady in 11 years and that was couple of years back when we did the Villa 3-0.
I thought McCarthy was outstanding that day. Oddest feeling that day was looking around and seeing so many Evertonians in one place. I'm involved a lot with football in NZ, Wellington, and if I see a guy wearing a shirt in one of the local team clubrooms on a Saturday afternoon then Ill say hi. There's a good number of blues here. But 30 odd thousand, you forget what its like.

My oldest boy is 19 now. He was back there last year on a trip and saw wins over Arsenal and Bournmouth, absolutely cemented him as a blue.

Anyway, Im inspired to say hi because this September sees me come back to England with my partner and 9 year old boy. They are both NZ born. He has never been to England. She has never been to a game. His mates are the usual Chelsea, City, RS crowd and its hard for him to relate to what its like to be a blue. But he will, he's got no choice. I'm desperate to take a game in. West Ham at home looking good. My bro is working on it......

From one Antipodean to another, Kia Ora bro. Post heaps, have fun, don't take the banter too seriously ;)

...what @Toffee in Jandals just said.

PS : if you're going up to Goodison, a fair few of the lads on here enjoy some pre-match 'lubrication' at The Lisbon. Feel free to join them.
Thanks bud, once we have something planned I'll post. Neither the Mrs nor my lad have any idea what it's like so will be good if we get to the West ham game. Being a blue in NZ is quite a lonely thing, too many follow the crowds. So to be at a big Goodison crowd should nail it to what it's all about.

...you're not wrong there mate; in my immediate/general circle there's really only me and my two lads ...

...and they don't thank me for it lol
