I'm well and truly stumped.

They were all managed by people who would go onto win the european cup.

So the first team to ever beat, or indeed play, us in europe was Dunfermline, managed by Jock Stein who later won it with celtic.

The second was Inter, who went onto to win it that year under Herrera and the third was Man U under Busby.

Lattek, who managed Bayern in 85 had already won it, but lost the final vs porto two years later and so never won it again. And noone else we've played in europe has come anywhere near.
