Hey GoT! As mentioned previously, the wife and I are headed overseas to visit London for our honey moon. During that period, we will be heading up to Liverpool for a December football match in Goodson. From your experience, what is the cheapest and quickest way to get there? I’ve never been to England but I’m sure there is train, subway, or something right?

Train from Euston direct to Liverpool Lime Street.

Best to book it in advance on Trainline site, cheaper and you are guaranteed seats.

Trains can get full over Xmas period, so provident to book it soon.

Have a great time, and ignore all following posts that mention The Lisbon.

;)

Appreciate it! Excited for my first time going to a game. Just want to make sure everything goes nice and smooth!

It’s only two hours and twelve minutes on a train and about 220 miles, so I wouldn’t recommend walking.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy straight from the Virgin trains website if you are booking in advance.

It's £89.10 I think if memory serves for a standard off peak return from Euston. I get that service about once a month, it only stops at about 4 stations and as was said above has you into Lime Street within 2.5hrs. Its a good service and runs every hour pretty much.

Don't just come for the game, at least spend the weekend on Merseyside.
Far better than that London.

Cheapest = walk, or Star Trek transporter. No need to thank me.

I live in London and always come up for the game by train. As said make sure u get an advance ticket (usually for sale about 12 weeks b4 the date), you have to pick the exact trains you will travel on but you can go standard class for as little as £30 per person return if you pick the right trains.
Hotels in Liverpool are very expensive on a Saturday night and fairly reasonable on a Friday night so for a Saturday game we tend to travel up on Friday afternoon/evening, stay over Friday and travel back Saturday evening after the game

Don't book your train yet. It'll be at full price until the timetables are announced. For most, including Virgin, it's 12 weeks in advance. When this is announced, advance fares become available which can be cheaper by quite a way. You can check here for the dates https://www.thetrainline.com/ticketalert
Virgin have also lost the West Coast Mainline, which may have an adverse impact on their price strategy.
