One caveat: there was this huge area of drug addicts that I happened upon last time I was there. Your friend could probably help you steer clear of it— I’m not sure the exact location but it was adjacent to some nice areas
I found this area as well. Maybe Market Street or something. It’s pretty well known. Took one wrong turn in a really nice area and everything quickly turned to insanity.

I’d travelled up the west coast and this was madder than anything I’d seen in downtown LA, Seattle or the tenderloin in SF, which took some doing.

Next sunday we are off on our first holiday of the year, to Tenerife, one of my favourite detinations for walking and relaxing. The reports in recent weeks about delays with the ID system on arrival at Tenerife South have not been good, has anybody been through lately that can confirm (or deny) this is the case?
So a passport isn’t enough, and you need another photo card with the same chuffing information on it….!?? ffs

Several times. Beautiful city.
If you have access to a car, you might want to check out Capilano (sp?) Suspension Bridge Park. Quite the spot.

The botanical gardens was great though I’d imagine this isn’t the time of year for it.

That part of Vancouver is called Hastings give it a big swerve , I’m in Calgary and enjoy going to Vancouver, it’s a bit more expensive but the £ is quite strong against the Canadian dollar,
There’s loads to do and see

Not quite, entering into EU requires UK citizens to go through a digital check- they take, and keep, a record of your fingerprints and photo. Later in the year they are introducing a further scheme (ETIAS) that will require the purchase (20 euros) of a travel document that I understand lasts for 3 years. I assume it is a further digital record attached to your passport but need that confirming.

Thank you! The Suspension Bridge looks amazing.

Yeah, one of the first things he told me was about that drug area!!

Got back from Tenerife yesterday, enjoyable break even if (according to locals) unseasonably cool and windy weather. Was a bit concerned before we went about the reported delays at the gates due to the new EEC electronic entry/exit rules. On arrival went through in a couple of minutes - no problem. Coming back a different story, basically if you delay in the terminal you miss the flight. Best advice, forget duty free and drinks or food in the airport make for the gates straight away (flight was slightly delayed whilst bags of missing passengers were removed from the plane hold).

Just booked up for a 4-day city break in Budapest - partly inspired by an article about this in the Guardian:
and partly because the last time I visited the city it was still Communist-run!

Just booked a train trip down to Austin Texas for an MLS away day this August. The train runs only once per day and takes at least 6 hours to travel what would normally be a 3 1/2 hour drive. At least it's cheap ($30 round trip) and drops me off downtown.
My mate and I went to watch Austin v DC United when we were on holiday, we got the Greyhound from Dallas , that was an experience.

Many years ago, Trailways used to offer cheap bus tickets to foreigners ($10 for 24 hours travel), so you could cross the country for $30. As you say, interesting experience travelling by bus. (I remember being warned for my own safety not to leave the bus station building in some random town in Iowa or Kansas!)

Not very cosmopolitan but MrsTT and I are venturing up Liverpool way next month. Stopping overnight in Bridgnorth April 23rd, Crosby 24th and Benllec (Anglesey) 25th-28th. All nights spent in McCarthy and Stone guests suits. One of the pluses of owning a Mc&S apartment is inexpensive but excellent overnight accomodation.

The reason for the overnight at Crosby is to visit the stadium on the 25th. Ironically the team with be at the London Stadium on that day - a 30 minute drive from Sidcup.

Have sent the wife 3 options for a long weekend over her birthday in October. Reykjavík, Copenhagen or Tallin.

Reykavik would be doing the usual touristy activities. Copenhagen would involve a day trip to Malmo and Tallin could involve a ferry to Helsinki for a night or two and fly home from their.
