Baines on 45k, how the hell did we keep hold of him.

That's the figure that's been banded around of late - £45K and likely to get a 50% rise to £65K. Chances are that most defenders don't attract the big money deals. I wouldn't mind betting that Pienaar is our highest earner now (until Baines gets an increase) - he's senior to all the other first teamers on top rates and I'd imagine the sale of Arteta, Fellaini, Cahill, Neville and the departure of Moyes has pushed him to the top of the tree.

Barry for 96k/week is about right. 96k for a year is something like 5m, and while it might seem expensive, he could still easily fetch a transfer fee of 2-3m if Man City were to sell him and he is willing to slash half of his wage bill (which he obviously won't), so 5m lump sum for a year sounds expensive but is sensible.

We are essentially buying him out of his contract.
