Transfer deadline aftermath - view and reaction.

We're progressing in terms of squad strength, yet still required to sell players to operate. That's the paradox.

I agree and then again I disagree . Moyes didnt want to or thought he indeed had too in order to strengthen . Kenwright did . Who is telling the truth ? Fact is we do not know but I have my own personal view .

Difference being though that we improve the squad on selling such players.

We have really only sold 2 players in Moyes tenure that has enabled us to improve the squad. I would not really call us a selling club.

United sold £85m worth of players in this window and have spent **** all, whatever Valencia cost.

That to me completely dispels the "Selling Club" myth. Players like playing for Everton (with the exception of one), there is something there that they don't get at any other club. But when a big fat wallet comes into view that changes things, as it does for any player.

That has only happened to us twice, and both times we couldn't turn it down, the first time we went out and produced a side capable of hitting top 4. This time I would like to think top 6 is still viable.

The only paradox is Jevons paradox. We've improved from 2001 in pretty much every way imaginable, yet still people find a reason to moan. The increase in quality is futile as some will simply never be happy.

It frustrates me enormously just how devoid of reality so many appear to be. The question of where our record turnover went. FFS, it's in our annual report. It's not like Bill stashes it up his backside. If people bothered to read this report they'd realise that we don't make much profit ourselves so the only way we're gonna spend on transfers is:

a) we sell players
b) we borrow from the bank
c) AN Sugar Daddy buys us

No doubt option b) would result in another stick with which to beat the club, mortgaging our future, doing a Leeds etc. and in this climate for once they're probably right, although of course when they don't do it they're showing a lack of ambition, not taking advantage of the great opportunity we find ourselves in on the cusp of that 4th spot.

Despite what many no doubt want, c) hasn't happened. This isn't fantasy land, this is reality. The reality is that the only option we had this summer to give money to Moyes was to sell a player. I dare say initially Moyes wanted to keep Lescott and borrow to buy Naughton (and probably only him). When that didn't happen and the Lescott situation turned sour the strategy probably changed and we were left a short period of time to bring in players.

No conspiracy theories, it's all there if you're willing to open your eyes. Of course it's easier to go into Football Manager mode and start ****ging somebody, anybody, off for the 'shambles' of yet another transfer window but it would be really nice if just some would look at the reality of the situation and ask themselves how they would have done things better.

Right lads. This man knows what he's talking about - he's a financial expert and works in the City-esque.

Exactly on the mark. I believed the same without the Lescott sale we wouldn't have our russian, dutchman and Frenchie. I totally agree Naughton was the cheif target with a cheeky loan for Banega. That was it lads I'm totally convinced of it. We didn't have any money the media played us up with all these targets.

I agree with you the club clearly needs to sell before buying the "mythical" 20 million everyone seems to think we have lying around in the bank just isnt there, simple as that.

We're a selling club and hey ho if thats the way it is thats the way it is.

The good thing is we imo have improved if the Russian is half as good as Arshavin.(y)

Are United a selling club?
