Tottenham Hotspur

It's odd how some of their fans have more or less given up when there's a quarter of the season left and they're not even in the relegation spots.
It reflects the character of most of their sides over the years.

Spurs - at their best - put out some exciting, technical, but flakey sides. For me, their best side was the early 1980s version with Hoddle, Ardiles, Villa, Archibald, Crooks, etc: a nice mix of flair and steel. The likes of Steve Perryman and Graham Roberts added a bit of character. Good players like Chris Hughton and Tony Galvin gave them a bit of cleverness. They were consistently a good side for about five years. But a cup side rather than a league one, though they transformed into a slightly more reliable - and dour - iteration in the mid-80s when they had two goes at the title without ever really convincing.

But in general, Spurs are summed up by the likes of Jamie Redknapp. A nice touch, but not much bite. The fans reflect that. Entitled but spineless.

Saying this to a couple of reds last night who kept insisting spurs have the quality to stay up. That might well be true but as those of us who have been brought up on relegation battles know you have to be bang up for the fight. They will arrogantly sleep walk into the championship if they aren't careful
