Agreed, as long as Basel play the 11 in front of them and not the reputation/club shop visiting day trippers, that ITV/general media love to harp on about.
They're a team who've dumped United out of the CL in recent seasons and have a lot of experience. That'll see them over the line.

He's right. You know he's right. They drop down into the competition despite being abject, we will meet them and they will raise their game.
I couldn't care less. It'd be massively unlikely to be a game to win the trophy - where we traditionally bottle it against them - it'd be overwhelmingly more likely to be an earlier round. We are very respectable in KO rounds of cup competitions against therm.

Not in recent years and that's where all the mental scaring comes from. The Gosling derby is far outweighed by the FA cup semi final.
We are best avoiding them and hoping they either progress or finish bottom of their group.

Speechless.

Unbelievable statement.

Get off your knees.

What i believe would happen were we to play them in the Europa has nothing to do with me 'getting off my knees' and everything to do with the fact that we as a team over the past decade or more have decided to bottle it against them the majority of the time. When the team on the pitch decide to get off their knees on a more regular basis my opinion will change.

I never thought I'd say this.... but I agree with @Brennan

They're never going to win the Champions League in a million years, so let them finish 2nd, and stumble along in that for another round. By finishing 2nd, they'll get a top top side (sup 'Arry) and probably get battered.

Would rather not see them drop into the Europa, because we have 30/40 years of evidence of their spawn when in direct competition with us.

Bravo.

Now go and look up the history of Everton v Liverpool in non-KO rounds. You'll find it's is VERY respectable.

History from years and years ago is totally irrelevant. We also used to win the league now and then. What matters is recent results, of which the overwhelming majority have been negative.

Every match against them should matter, so the fact that we'd be playing them in the cup and not the league makes absolutely no difference as far as i'm concerned. We can't beat them with any consistency regardless of how crap they are.
