I’m old enough to remember the devaluation of this competition by Ferguson and Wenger. They both openly mocked it in favour of the champions league games, it’s very slowly returning to get love but it seems some fans are also devaluing it.

A day out in the sunshine to Wembley seems so far away from us, where as the tricky reds get one most years. I know what I’d rather have.
The sad state of modern day football means owners and even probably some fans would rather finish in the CL than lift the cup.

Sorry but for me i would take a cup and 11th place every year over finishing 4th every year and winning nothing.

Like someone just said its all about winning a competition you're in.

Just to sample the CL music at an Everton home game would be amazing, but agreed.

60 years ago you got nothing for finishing 4th.

You did for winning Trophies.

Of course it would mate.

Clubs prestige and history is built on success, success means winning competitions.

This is why many still consider Everton Villa Forest as big clubs because they've had success.

And why we laugh at Newcastle thinking they are massive because they haven't won a sausage in a generation.

I do have to laugh at this current fad with Premier League footballers, they all seem to want to stay “humble “ while they are driving away from their respective clubs in top of the range BMWs and Mercedes etc, wearing designer clothes and heading to their mansions worth millions. I have no objections to top line footballers enjoying the fruits of their success, I don’t care how they spend their money but don’t pretend to be humble while being anything other than humble.
Someone specific this pertains to?

We're close to winning nothing in a generation too, really, no idea why we're laughing at anyone reaching a final when our biggest achievement was 1 FA cup final since 1995. We're in a several year rebuild where, if we keep ignoring all cups because they're "not worth it", we'll reach a generational gap of nothing.

Win the League Cup and you get into Europe at any rate. I'd prefer we (try to) win those in the next few years instead of waiting for the CL opener music at Bramley Moore for scraping to 4th somehow

No, nothing specific. I seen clips of Haaland mouthing off to Arsenal players about staying humble, apparently Arsenal then responded by playing a track called Humble after they beat City, now Gordon is at it. I have also heard other players from other clubs talking about staying humble. Not wishing to generalise but Premier League players aren’t the most humble group of workers in the world.

Opinions differ Matty. Liverpool have had success year upon year for as long as I’ve known. Newcastle think they are something special when they aren’t and haven’t won a decent pot since 1955. Plus Newcastle believe they have some mad rivalry with us because they’ve had Clare Balding off us the other year. Liverpool handing them their arse isn’t going to make a great deal of difference in my life to be fair but it will make me smile thinking about those bells being piped down.

i guess it’s opinions mate
