I think Cahill is definitely worth persevering with for another season, could go back to 10 a season form as has been said, imagine that combined with Jelavic maintaining his form, he is a good player Cahill, class is permanent. he knows how to score.

Class is not permanent. If it were, Dixie Dean would still be banging in goals for us. The argument against Cahill is simply based on advancing age diminishing performance. He is not a 26 year old wonder striker who had one bad year.

"Class is permanent, except when advancing age is the reason for poor form" is a more accurate reflection of the football truism that is afflicting our Aussie hero.

Will wait and see, he won't be leaving without a transfer fee though that's for sure.

If they cough up something worth while then he'll probably go. With everyone's best wishes, he's been Moyes best signing and beautiful to watch over the last eight years. You hope that we'll sign players who "get it". Cahill certainly did.

To everyone who was up in arms over the thought that he may go on a free - it is mentioned in the article (that is what release would mean here, isn't it)?

Though Cahill has two years remaining on his deal at Goodison Park and is still highly rated by coach David Moyes, indications are that Everton would not stand in his way were he to request a release.

Certainly Everton would want to get a fee for him, but as things stand, if they get a fee then Cahill's 2 yr contract moves to Saudi Arabia - and they want him for 1 year (and he may not be up for 2 years in case it doesn't go well). If it happens, it MAY end up being on a free because Cahill ASKS the team for a release from his contract. As much as we'd like the money, If Tim asks nicely, I would not be shocked if Everton acts like a classy club and rips up the remaining contract and says thank you for your service.

A win/win/win scenario may be that Everton works out some sort of 1 year contract rewrite and THEN we can sell him to the Saudi's, get a fee, and neither he, his family or the saudi team are stuck with a long contract in case things sour.

Who knows.

I don't think theres anything to this, doubt he'd uproot his family to move there. £4m seems nice but i'm sure he's well loaded already, doesn't look like a greedy b*stard to me like.

One last thought -
Everton's "on the field" relationship with Tim Cahill will end sooner rather than later. Let's start getting used to that idea.
I really hope the club thinks long and hard about how to end that relationship in as kind, classy, and mutually beneficial way as possible. It would be a real shame to do anything to sour this relationship at this point.

I think you missed the point of how a transfer works! Just because he has a two year contract with us doesn't mean he has to have one for 2 years at the next club who "buys" him. If we get a fee, then timmy can sign a 1, 2 or 3 year contract just as he can if he goes on a free. Personally if you add up how much we will pay him over the next 2 years, probably between 5-6 million then getting 1 or 2 million as a transfer fee isn't the issue here unfortunately. Most people on here have argued barkley should get Cahill's playing time, in that case letting him go for free wouldn't be such a bad thing

Mety, if that is true then you are right and I do stand corrected. I was under the impression that a player sold with a remaining contract (non-bosman) meant the. Buying team inherited the contract too (that is how most/all American sports work). Why is Fellaini worth more if he has 5years left vs 2 years left on a contract if the buying team didn't inherit that contract?

Because you are taking the player x number of years before the club wanted to release him. It's compensation for the inconvenience of losing a player you didn't want to, and is scaled accordingly.

Phone contracts are similar, if you cancel nearer to the end of your 2 year agreement you will pay a lower cancellation charge than at the beginning of the contract.

Because they can leave for free at the end of the contract. Felli is here for 5 years in theory, if anyone wants him he'll cost big money as he won't be available for a "free" for 5 years or at the end of his contract. Pienaar only had a year left and as such could leave for free at the end of the season so we got what we could. I think I've explained that ok!

Really can't add much to what's already been said.

If we get a decent transfer fee, then it's worth sending him off.

If we don't, it still might be worth sending him off.

Either way, he'll always be considered a true blue and an Everton great when it's all said and done.

On SSN website. Dont know if someone has already posted this...

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill is not ruling out a move to the Middle East amid speculation linking him with Saudi Arabian giants Al Nasr.

The Australian is reportedly a key target for the club this summer, with reports suggesting he could earn up to £2.5million for one season if he completed a move.

Cahill has played numerous times in the Middle East while representing his country and the 32-year-old, who is contracted at Goodison Park until 2014, has made no secret of his admiration for the region.

"I know what the experience is like. I have lived and breathed it," he told AAP.

"I have played in two Asia Cups and I have got great connections with a lot of important people overseas.

"I come on holiday in the Middle East a lot and I embrace the weather and the culture.''

Speculation

Despite the heightened speculation, Cahill is pushing the rumours aside so he could concentrate on playing for Australia this month.

"All these sort of elements of speculation will be dealt with after camp,'' he added.

"It is always a compliment. I am a massive fan of the Middle East, the cultures, the people.

"I have travelled a lot and I respect them a lot. For me, it is just to focus on the Socceroos and we will see what happens later.''

I'll tell you what's ironic, Cahill isn't a guaranteed starting player in the national squad anymore, yet he accepts it and expected it. And this is against teams who are ranked under over 50! Yet Moyes still loves starting him every game.
