Ok this is from 2007, difficult to judge maybe, but still some points :

Gate Reciepts : £17m
Broadcasting : £28m
Sponsorship : £4m
Merchandising : £1m

Wages : £38m
Other operating costs : £11m

The accounts are all there in black and white. As I say thats from 2007, it could be said that we have clearly made more money in profit, with regards to an improved Sky deal, Kitbag deal and other factors, the wages wont have improved all that much. A few players signed new deals, but we lost a few players.

So what on Earth could we be spending £11m on?

Page 10 is the juicy stuff.

I don't really have time to give a detailed response but suffice to say running a business the size of Everton isn't cheap. I dare say that travel costs alone cost a fair bit, then there is the rent on Finch Farm, the debt repayments (a couple of million there alone), utility bills, taxes and so on.

I'll admit it's not the best argument but we're not alone in this. No Premier League club can spend big in the summer courtesy of their profits except Man Utd. Arsenal generate a huge profit but their debt repayments are huge. We're not an isolated case, the other clubs simply have a sugar daddy willing to endulge them or a friendly bank manager.

Im going to bring a bit of realism to the debate,

Out
Lescott
Castillo
AVDM
Jacobson

Billy
Distan
Jo

Even as things stand now i am going to predict that the three lads we brought in will make more apearences then the lads who left (possibly Distin has already equalled AVDM total), is the squad weaker or stronger hmm!

Sorry for bringing common sense into this.

It's definately stronger. The thing is most of our backup options are gone. Jacobson, Castillo, even VDM could all be really usefull in a tight spot, and Lescott could cover for Baines if he were to get himself injured. Now, if we have a defensive injury crisis, we're reliant on younger players, and though I very much encourage them getting to taste first team action, they can't carry an EPL team's defence yet. Our squad is stronger, but we lack depth.

I am going to bring a bit of fantasy to the proceedings. This is how our formation could look like at Fulham even though it probably wont.

Howard

Heitinga ---- Yobo ---- Distin ---- Baines

Bentley ---- Rodwell ---- Billy ---- Pienaar

Cahill

Saha

Looks a decent team that and that is without Jagielka, Neville, Arteta, Fellaini, Jo, Yakubu. Now when you think of strength of depth and no new strikers or another centre back in, signing just Heitinga and Bentley tomorrow would give us decent competition for places.

true, but I'd still like someone who can cover Baines..
