2025/26 Thierno Barry

Not really. Works both ways too. Haaland for example at RB was clearly destined for greater things. Potential is pretty ethereal as you can't measure it accurately. As fans we can provide an opinion, its up to the player to realise the potential. Dele Alli looked for all to see a world beater at one point, then fell off a cliff edge. FWIW, I'm not writing Barry off, but I don't think he's ever gonna be a 20 goal as season player.
What works both ways?

I said it was seriously weird how people (fans) have so much confidence in their ability to judge talent and future trajectory based on a handfull of appearances.

It wasn't directed at you. A lot of people on here are basically writing the lad off.

Fwiw, I don't think he'll be particularly prolific but I do think he could turn into a useful prem striker.

The operative word (as in your post) is in bold.

Saw enough of Barry yesterday to know he has some attributes then can be worked with and should be afforded more time before we write him off, he’s young raw and between now & end of the season will have ok games but no doubt will have some shockers, I think next season we will see a more rounded striker, we’ve just gotta persevere & give him more encouragement to succeed, confident he’ll come good.

To be fair the two examples you've given here today have been Haaland and Bellingham.

I think it was pretty obvious to anyone that saw those two they were something special and I don't really think anyone expects Barry to be anywhere near that level.

Many players develop a bit later, he might be one of those. Or he might be a Beto. Who knows!
And Dele 😉

Chill dude. Its a debate.

Judging players positively as negatively. Working both ways.

Is he good enough? Not at the moment, but, he looks far more like a footballer than Beto. Ideally we bring in a decent centre forward on loan in January and Barry can be the lad who plays the last 20 minutes or so most weeks and has the odd game to rest the centre forward. I say loan, because I don't think we will spend big until the summer, when I believe Moyes will be gone, it would be foolish to spend big in January, if the fabled transfer committee pick the players, Moyes may not play them and if Moyes picks the players, they may not be what the new manager wants.

When was the last time you smiled mate?

Love to know if you thought Drogba would be Drogba when he was Barry's age and scoring 3 goals in a season for Guingamp.

Obviously I don't think Barry will be as good as Drogba but people's confidence in their ability to judge football talent and future trajectory never fails to mystify me.
DRogba was pretty old when he came to Chelsea wasn't he?
I'm pretty sure I saw him at the San Siro in his mid 20s playing against Milan for Marseille.

I'm easy like a Sunday morning mate.

Just think it's strange how some make a catagorical declaration about a player after a few games. Positive or negative,
Maybe they're just expressing their opinions poorly.
Sound. I'm largely ambivalent, Im sticking by my assertion hes never gonna be prolific.
