2025/26 Thierno Barry

Mentioned that earlier in the thread then seen tonight's last gasp equaliser by him tonight i an absolute scorcher of a goal- then nto extra time & a 4- 2 win well done to the under 23s to progress into the next round of the youth cup - not often you see the blues score 4 at the HD stadium ;)
Good luck k in the next round Graham looks to be in the Rooney mould !
Wasn’t it the U18’s?
You’ll have Zat hyperventilating

Of the goals he's scored there have been some nice finishes in there which show some promise. He has had some service and not converted which shows he can get into the right positions and I hope more goals come and his confidence grows.

I can't agree that his game outside the box is anything other than slightly better than Beto. All of the criticisms people level at Beto for hold up play I see with Barry as well.
He obviously needs to be more consistent with it, but I thought there were several games were he demonstrated that he is capable of solid hold up play , such as the Aston villa match where he knocking down balls , returning in the midfield to coordinate attacks, it's sporadic but there are games for me , it's not just be more clinical I think he's distinguishes himself as a more technically gifted player than Beto which of course is a not a difficult feat to surpass. Ive been impressed with his tenacity to persevere after some lackluster showings so I still think he could be a player just needs to continue to refine his game

He whack yo. The club best be moving heaven and earth to get rid of him and Beto asap in the summer.

Blank slate, make £70-80 million available for three new strikers in the summer.

Obviously another £30-40 million for two full backs.

The only one I'll defend him for, think it was his third? when he got into a good space and nice connection but the defender flew out of nowhere to block it. Not sure what more Barry could have done with that one.

Should have gone to the ball and finished … not wait for the ball to come to him and hit it into the defender

I think the single touch stuff is better than Beto's, but if he asked to do more than that he's in trouble and things get broken down and we are hit on the break. I do think if Beto gets the same chances Barry got on Tues he is more likely to score. Not great choices, I guess if the coaches think Barry has more chance of improing they might stick with him.

It's costing us though, we should be thinking about Europe after tues, instead we have lost at home to another really poor team and regardless of how well our better players do, games are often decided by the mistakes of poor players such as our strikers and left back.

I despair looking at that top list and comparing it to lukaku.

Lukaku's goals where from an attacking, pacy team that played to his strengths, would Lukaku get that many goals with this team. Not having a go at Moyes here but both them managers had a very different approach to football.

Just clearly a bad faith argument. You saw non league strikers playing against non league defenders in 19XX who you can confidently say are better than Barry who is playing against Premier league defenders in 2026.

Sure, certainly no logical inconsistencies to that argument whatsoever.

Ian Wright came through late from non league to Arsenal, think he was 22 or something, he didn't do too bad did he ? Went along to play for England too.

Doesn’t matter who we have up front, we don’t create enough chances each game.

I also don’t buy into the myth that there are lots of strikers out there and it’s just us not finding them. Other than Thiago at Brentford (whose had a year to settle in), there aren’t many strikers setting the league alight - especially ones in the market we operate.

Most of the big money signings this summer (Sesko 6, Cunha 6, Woltemede 7) are on similar numbers to Barry, 5.

The you’ve got the likes of Evanilson, 5, and Jimenez, 6.

There is also obviously the eye test and there are times when he looks poor but others when his hold up play and passing is really good. However, he often wins it and no one is near him.

The reality is, until we get the ball into box more and players around him to support, then you’re never going to really know how good he is.

I think he needs time and a more balanced side around him.

Although this is generally true I think we also need to remember that the strikers are part of the team who creates chances. Maybe balls don't come in because the strikers are marking themselves out of the game by taking up rubbish positions, lack of movement in the box, poor hold up play etc etc.

We have always struggled to get numbers in the box too for years.

Agree with this and when we did get numbers in the box, second half at Fulham for example, we did at times the difference was there to see. Is it a mindset with the players or is our manager playing too safe ?

Not sure to be honest, as much as it's on our managers make up to be a bit cautious we have been like this for years under many different managers.

We seem to approach the whole playing football thing differently to every other team!

Again agree maybe due to our spend on players the last five years or so, letting our better players go and buying players, should we say not as good. We seem to buy / rely on big Centre forwards, while most other teams go for pace. This year I've been most home league games a few Cup ones for me we rely on Pickfords kicking up to centre forward or out to Obrien, invariably the ball comes straight back, far too much and it is not beneficial to our play. We need to change this ethos and try to play through the midfield more, but it doesn't help with having poor fullbacks or centre halves playing there, our wingers are often isolated and again play breaks down. As said we don't support our forwards enough, we don't attack as a team and hardly ever have enough players in the box to make a difference.

teams like Fulham, bournemouth and now Leeds attack in numbers and pace.
simple math really - the overloads puts more pressure on the opposition defense and gives you a higher chance of scoring.
our touches in the opposition box are often low for that matter.

we're so slow and painful to watch
